Tap to pay is finally here! @METROHouston now has this available on every bus and at all rail platforms for your use. As long as you have your tap enabled credit card or mobile wallet you can board the bus. Don't worry you can still pay with cash, but this is a great addition.

I had to fight tooth and nail for months to ensure the planned drainage + flood mitigation improvements were preserved. This sidewalk was narrowed from planned 10’ to 8’ on one side, no sidewalk across the street. At next intersection we lose the 8ft, it goes to (at times) 4ft.
Checked out the new 8-foot sidewalks and fresh pavement on Montrose BLVD today! We’re working every day to fix Houston’s streets and make our neighborhoods safer and more walkable.🌳

If 34,000 people experience 10+ min delays daily, they’re losing 156,000 minutes of their day to the loss of signal priority. Problems started on the 20th, so 1.56M min have already been lost You cannot grow ridership on slow service. Who is this for? https://t.co/2Sc8m2fQOk

METRO said recent traffic signal adjustments have been contributing to delays for riders.

.@METROHouston’s on-street light rail is now forced to stop with traffic lights in downtown and Midtown, causing delays and reversing 20 years of precedent The Red Line sees ~32,000 trips each weekday as Houstonians get to work and school https://t.co/xlYYeukNcZ

In the wake of recent changes to METRORail, it is pertinent to understand how vital the system is for Houston. Including the elements that make it among the USA's most successful light rail systems. An older thread below from @christofspieler
https://t.co/m0NvBgnWxL
In January 2004, Houston opened its first light rail line. At 40,000 weekday riders on 7.5 miles within 3 years of opening, Houston beat every other US light rail system except Boston and San Francisco (which has a 100 year head start) in riders per mile. Some lessons:

If you’re a transit system, your priority cannot be “to ensure a balanced approach that strengthens mobility for all.” A transit system’s priority is its riders, full stop.
Here’s @METROHouston’s statement regarding light rail delays and traffic signal timing adjustments No word yet from @houmayor or @HouPublicWorks

The Red line shouldn’t stop at red lights. For over 20 years these trains have moved millions. Who changed the traffic signals and why? @METROHouston @houmayor @houston Tell us your story at: https://t.co/YPDNt2BVZg

In a huge win for the community, Whitmire's TIRZ board has quietly changed the lane widths for W. Alabama! We made the point loud and clear that 12' lanes are for freeways, not our neighborhoods. @NACTO says 10' should be the standard here. https://t.co/Hxa2ckWm65

These could have been installed WITHIN A DAY after the first crash. For $1000 we can 1) get driver's attention 2) educate drivers about TX law to yield to pedestrians 3) reduce speeding Prioritizing pedestrian safety means installing these CITY WIDE! @AbbieKamin @houmayor 1/2

Houston friends: it’s time to tell METRO how to improve their budget. Email budget.book@ridemetro.org and/or show up to speak Wednesday at noon. I’ll see you there!
Critics are questioning Metro’s $2 billion proposed budget for 2026, saying it funds projects that 2019 voters didn’t approve.

“Holzer told me her team pulled TxDOT crash data for a 1.1-mile segment of Westheimer that includes the intersection where the Lamar student was struck. In that section alone, over the past seven years, more than 150 people were injured in crashes, most of them drivers.“
My column on a burgeoning public safety crisis in Houston: streets designed for high-speed traffic that are increasingly dangerous (and costly) for pedestrians and drivers
