My wife and personal hero, @sara__stock, gave birth to our baby girl yesterday and I’ve been on a very sleepy cloud 9 since. There were many “I can’t do this!” and “Nothing’s happening!” but it was and she could 🤣 I’m the most appreciative husband in the world. I love you both!

From my recent tweet about analytics, it seems that the average fan, encouraged by misleading broadcasters/reporters, believes analytics to be solely things like exit velo, spin rate, etc. Analytics is using information to determine how to best win a baseball game. That’s it.

If you think one aspect of the game is more important than another, you’ve applied analytics. Batting average and pitching to contact is a “lost art”? That’s an analytic! Congrats.

Hitting your cutoff man is an “analytic”. Doing the “little things right” are all “analytics”. If you’re a coach making little tallies every time a player takes a quality AB or makes a good baserunning play you’re being analytical. As you should. This is a tepid take.

With all due respect to analytics, the Brewers are at least trying to play the game properly, says @Ken_Rosenthal. "While organizations seem to obsess over enhancing pitching velocity and hitters' exit velocities, why can't they do the same on the fundamental side?"

NO WAY A SECOND ONE! These must have come after I allowed a HR to Judge I bet. I'm just now opening all my mail from the season.

Just had a first - a (former?) fan mailed me my own signature back to me. Like I had signed something for them, and they no longer wanted it? Haha I'm sorry to disappoint 😂.

I once bet multiple millionaires $100 that tax brackets don’t work like this, and we had to consult multiple CPAs until they believed me. And these weren’t even baseball players. One of the most persistent, dumb myths perpetuated today.

You know what’s crazy? The fact that in Canada… some people actively avoid getting raises even when they deserve one—because being pushed into a new tax bracket is sometimes not worth it to them.

I’m being paid to NOT play baseball right now. I don’t like it. I also don’t hate it. But it’s not ideal.

If anyone who can sign me is concerned about my brief IL stint, here’s some video/rapsodo from this morning. 94mph sidearm in the pen at 10am is my healthy norm. If you can’t sign me (99.99% of you) sorry for inundating you with my job-seeking. I have no shame.

Most interesting thing I’ve learned this year is that I was EXCEEDINGLY bad at getting a fastball to carry when I threw from over the top. But from sidearm I’m actually really good at it! It’s all about the movement the better expects to see from the arm slot. This one was 98mph.

This whole season has been incredible for my development as a pitcher. From the beginning until now I’ve refined my arm slot and pitch grips. The results were better strike throwing and sharper pitch movements! Here’s the CSW of my very last game. Fastball velo up to 98mph.

This whole year I’ve struggled mightily to get LHH out. East-West arsenals in general are not very effective vs opposite side hitters. My very last outing as a WooSock I deployed a 85mph CB to great effect. If you’re reading this and have the power to hire me, please consider!

Also let the pros ride a golf cart. Nobody cares they’re fit enough to do the same walk that 70 year olds do every morning.

From now on, if your dad tells you a story about his playing days- DOUBLE CHECK IT! Two times in one season is too many for baseball twitter.

This is incredibly awkward, but this is just completely untrue and is easily verified as untrue. It wasn't easy finding instances where he pitched 3 days in a row, and I only found a single time where he pitched 4 in a row, which was to end the season in 1986.

No no it’s just that they used to measure yards differently, kickers have always been this good. Better in the past, in fact. It’s just the r̶a̶d̶a̶r̶ ̶g̶u̶n̶s̶ yard-measuring-stick that’s different now.

I don't know if there's a single position in all of sports that has seen a more dramatic increase in athleticism over the last 2 decades than the NFL placekicker.

A lot of things that are mechanically inefficient are what make outlier pitches. The way Brash accelerates his arm at the end makes his breaking stuff disgusting, but would blow up his arm if he was a starter. Being able to “redline” your body is important as a MLB reliever.

I see videos like this and remind myself that bucketing mechanics is one of the worst things to do to an athlete. Get the pelvis open and move with intent into a firm lead leg and good things happen. Year of the compensator.
