Obviously, the Cohen purse works for large free agent contracts, but the ability to pluck these players from other teams is also a huge benefit
The Red Sox gave Cooper Criswell a larger-than-normal guaranteed 2026 salary in the hopes that it would help sneak him through waivers (if and when they removed him from the 40-man roster). It didn’t work. So it goes.

The Red Sox could and should trade another outfielder, even after parting with Jhostynxon Garcia I am looking at you Jarren Duran

I am much more interested in Tyler Samaniego than I am Oviedo- Oviedo is somewhat generously an average starter? with some major command issues Samaniego was old for AA (he's 26), but he gets some crazy RPM on his fastball/sinker. Could make an appearance in the majors in 2026
Two others moving in the Oviedo-for-Password deal, per sources: left-hander Tyler Samaniego and catcher Adonys Guzman are going to the Red Sox. The Pirates will get one player in addition to Jhostynxon Garcia.

Keith Law on Devin Williams deal This deal is an improvement over giving Edwin Díaz a five-year contract, which would be inane given the history of relievers on deals that long (if relievers on long-term deals were a horror movie, it would be second this year only to “Sinners”).

It’s beating a dead horse to some degree, but the Mets best fit for a starting pitcher remains Joe Ryan

Gore is an interesting pitcher- he's young, with 2 years left of control (age 27-28 seasons), and gets a ton of swing and misses. You'd think interest should/would be quite high But his fastball is not good, and he gets toasted upon contact. More of a backend, 4/5 starter

I don't think I've seen anything more overblown than "Pete Fairbanks has Reynaud's, therefore he won't be able to pitch well in April/May and October"

I see a lot of "signing a reliever to a long term deal is risky" about Devin Williams It's 3 years, guys.

This is a pretty tough year for the HOF ballot, but these would be my choices The person I deliberated on the most in terms of inclusion was Mark Buehrle

This guy is a trainwreck take machine, I almost respect how bad every take is Almost.
The New York Mets made the NLCS in 2024 Had a helluva season all-around, beat expectations Then they got Juan Soto in the offseason Now, just a year later, it’s starting to feel like: Brandon Nimmo Jeff McNeil Pete Alonso Francisco Lindor Are all gonna be gone One single

The Mets have internally decided to stop pursuing Tarik Skubal, as he is not interested in fashion
