The United States needs a functioning democracy to pass needed legislation, maintain a robust economy, & preserve stability at home & broad-but Americans will only get one if rights are balanced with obligations. Hence my new book: The Bill of Obligations.

Just because an order is in irreversible decline does not mean that chaos or calamity is inevitable. But if the deterioration is managed poorly, catastrophe could well follow.

All those critical of @potus for not getting congressional authorization before attacking Iran are overlooking the historical record that since WW2 99% of the time US presidents have used military force it was without explicit prior approval from Congress.

Most interesting component of @potus remarks was attempt at intra-war deterrence, ie, threats to Iran (attacking critical economic targets?) to discourage it from retaliating vs US troops in region, neighboring countries, or carries out terrorism here.

.@potus should give Iran a demanding proposal w a time limit to accept: denuclearization w verification in exchange for no attack & sanctions relief. If rejected, US should attack Fordow & other sites. Better to avoid war if possible, but Iran cannot become the next N Korea.

The Trump Doctrine, aka the “look the other way,” “see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil,” or the “none of our business” doctrine. The case for and the stronger case against this new US approach to the world.
