About a year and a half ago a certain popular security conference was called out for having little to no diversity among their 20 keynote speakers. A watershed moment for them and our industry. And it’s affected me. 1/11

Holy crap this is awful.
Imagine a tech conference having no CFP, as they reach out to speakers directly. They successfully attract some of the most heavy hitter men speakers in tech, and 3 women speakers. Now imagine my surprise that 2 of those women are FAKE profiles. They do not exist. Nada.

And then all I had to do was click a purchase button, authorize Apple Pay, and now I’m “verified” too? This really doesn’t make sense. My voice doesn’t carry the same weight as there’s does (or did).

I think back over the years about the people I’ve followed who had huge follower counts and real influence and a meaningful voice. When they became Twitter verified it meant something to them and their followers.

Nice to see a company take full ownership for an embarrassing snafu. And unlike the infamous @HBOMaxHelp email screw up of the summer of 2021, it’s nice to see @Malwarebytes isn’t bothering to offer the responsible intern with any help. Long live interns… and snark 🤣

Serious FOMO about @BlueTeamCon, especially as I’ll be on a tight schedule moving my son into @DePaulU just 30 short minutes away.

Outstanding talk and a great summit. Lots of great information being shared to help improve the resiliency of the industry.

Okay, I just read JDs "scientific" paper. TL;DR "CitizenLab has not shared all evidence publicly, so their research is fake." According to JD, one needs to be at least a PhD student to be able to "asses" his research. So here we go.

Now this is interesting. Someone’s created a pic w/ its NeuralHash. Hard evidence as to unreliability of the algorithm to detect specific pics I’d think. And they included a link to the tool they used to create it which includes a pic of a cat and a pic of a dog that collide.

Great, easy to digest, actionable advice. If you use any of the 5 affected products, patch now.

Someone close to me fell victim recently to an online scam. The shame and embarrassment they felt was real and the feeling of helplessness froze them in their tracks. But in many instances you CAN take steps to get your money back. Read this article for more info.
