I was arrested on June 2nd, 2020 with around 100 other protesters in Los Angeles. While I was ziptied and facing the wall, two male officers joked behind me about my gender presentation: "Do you think it's a female? Are you sure?"

we want to have those difficult conversations of how to avoid these incidents in future, how the community can come together to heal from this, and what we can do for you to help during this time. Please reach out if you feel comfortable. We are listening.

We have been trying to manage this as best we can with a very limited staff, and have been slowly working our way through refunds & all else we feel needs to be done in the wake of all that’s happened. We are sorry we have not been more vocal during this time

Also: when this was written we had only heard accounts by women but now understand that C. harassed non-binary individuals as well. We apologize for not acknowledging this in the original tweet.

To be clear we do not view these as merely “allegations.” We believe everyone who has spoken out. Poor wording.

We are deeply disturbed by the harassment allegations regarding one of our authors, C. Aloysius Mariotti. We will no longer be working with him. We want to apologize for the harm he has caused multiple women in our community. We hear you. We believe survivors.

The poet, the one you’d expect to have faith in language, knows that naming alone does nothing to dispell mystery. For [them] a word is a gesture in the direction of reality, and does not limit or circumscribe; the poet knows that nothing at all is settled by the word. Mark Doty
