Listen to MG bravely share his experiences as it pertains to SARA - a counterproductive banishment law - on the @NYCLU podcast, along with RAF board member and sociologist @HorowitzEmily . The state should not be legislating anyone into homelessness.
LISTEN: SARA is billed as a way to protect New Yorkers from people who could harm children. But research shows these types of geographical restrictions don’t increase public safety.

We applaud @NYCLU and their brave plaintiffs for this litigation to overturn an unfair practice that destabilizes people in reentry. Policies like SARA that prioritize perpetual punishment over prevention practices, rehabilitation & survivor services are counterproductive.
4/ Banishment is not how we should treat formerly incarcerated individuals. The Constitution requires that people convicted of sexual offenses are not subjected to unnecessary and vague restrictions that curb their ability to reintegrate into society. Our statement:

Humans grow & change. We stand with the @RAPPcampaign and others to end the culture of exclusion in reform efforts. All people should have access to real relief from system injustices & the opportunity to be part of community solutions.
This week we were at Cardozo Law School talking about building a human justice movement without exclusions, led by 9 formerly incarcerated leaders who served 268 years. All do incredible work improving safety. All were excluded from NY's Clean Slate & many other reforms. (1/x)
