“You can’t deep-breathe your way out of a pandemic; you cannot stretch your way out of terrible class sizes; you cannot ‘individual behavior’ your way out of structural problems." @educationweek @madeline_will

The pandemic has put teachers through the wringer. Administrators must think about staff well-being differently.

Teachers have a lot of really good ideas. School leaders should never underestimate this. It starts with conversations.

Academics don't matter if your kid is not in a good state mentally or physically. Once adjusted, do as much academics as you can. Kids do need structure. Kids do need academics. They need safety first. Keep in mind that academics can include things not taught in school.

Note to self: this semester, focus on the majority instead of the minority. Not everyone is going to like my class nor the content, but I need to stop letting that minority siphon my energy from the majority who come to class everyday ready to do what they need to do.

Character is what you do when the leader isn't watching. Culture is what your group does when the leader isn't watching. Culture often reflects a leader's character, but it can also be a substitute for a leader's lack of character. #TuesdayThoughts

I’m crazy enough to completely scrap PBIS and push my team to develop a CRPBIS framework based on the needs of our building and our students #crpbis #pbis #HackingSchoolDiscipline #leadership #unapologetic #nextlevelleadership

Just started The Four O’Clock Faculty—“if it can be read to your faculty, it belongs in an email”. So true; faculty meetings should not consist of principals reading to staff—they are highly intelligent people and can read on their own. #4OCF

Students and athletes need to be pushed through failure, mediocrity, and "good enough." It can be uncomfortable, but sometimes tough love is needed. #teachergoals

Administrators and teachers are on the same team, even if they are not on the same page. Administrators have many stakeholders to consider & limited resources to utilize. Teachers are the ones working directly with students & have valid insights. Communication is key #realtalk

If you work in a school, you are important to much more than just the kids. Staff morale is not usually a function of the students... but of the level of support, encouragement, trust, respect, and camaraderie that exists between the adults in the building.

Being #futureready is more than embedding tech skills. Shaking hands, looking people in the eye, respecting others, and emotional intelligence will always be critical to success. #teachergoals
