The paper is now out in JEBO, with a less jargonish title and nicer figures.

New working paper: we’re all getting access to better quality advice in our jobs. In theory, this should lead to lower inequality, as the least productive workers benefit from high quality advice the most. Our experiment with chess players shows it is not necessarily true… (1/8)

Help, I started an audit study by randomly sending a made-up CV with an Indian sounding name to lots of AI startups and just forgot about it. Seems I am now a millionaire with lots of lawsuits.

Loved this piece. True advocates of free speech stand for the rights of both left wing and right wing idiots. The best ones are those who can tell also the hypocrisy of most self-proclaimed unidirectional free speech advocates.

The Trump administration this month has cut some government agencies’ subscriptions to journals at Nature’s publisher, Springer Nature. And at least two agencies say they are ending all their contracts with the company.

Explaining game theory to an American: so you see, you want to deter kids from having fun on the street. What you need is a big SUV that is CREDIBLE in running over them. Driverless don't work because they won't kill the kids running to catch their ball.

Author Malcolm Gladwell explains why he thinks driverless cars will fail in urban centers—and why he ran circles (literally) around a Waymo vehicle.

OECD pillar two is beautiful: global min 15% tax for the largest multinationals. If a country does not charge what it is owed, others are allowed to charge instead. Thus, it works even if a large country like the US does not join. Its cancellation is a major loss for my lectures.

The beauty of English people not following politics in foreign languages is seeing conservative groups such as @NextGenTories organically reinventing leftist mediterannean themes such as housing prices being too high because of foreigners or pedestrianisation (love the latter)

1. Take a big dataset 2. automate a pre-registration for 100 different projects, each corresponding to a different regression 3. write up 99 null-results, and 1 significant one, as 100 different papers. that does not count as p-hacking, does it?.

Fun fact: if Internet starts working on trains, the CBAs of new train projects will DECREASE, because it will mean the value of work time saved is lower.

Everyone knows how annoying it is when you’re on a train and your signal keeps dropping out. So we’re going to install ultra-fast cables along major rail lines to get rid of those dead spots.

Seems strange if true. A huge solar farm in a totally different (and sunny) place. No upfront cost for taxpayer. A CfD more expensive than local projects but perhaps worth it as solar in Morocco is not highly correlated with uk. Maybe the key is that it did not generate uk jobs?

Looking for a 2025 European leader doing exactly like China did in 2007. Stop fighting the technological battles we have already lost, take the cheap and good foreign products now, and invest massively to lead the next generation instead of subsidizing the previous one.
