I don't typically give a shit about such things, but Eury Pérez deserves to be an All-Star. He's been among the most impactful NL pitchers so far this season, period.
1.34 ERA in 47 IP
I don't understand this. Why does a general manager feel that they are "not able to do anything about it" when their team is underachieving? (this was recorded last month)
On multiple levels, I disagree with the Marlins sending down Eury Pérez.
I get workload concerns, but there's a clear opening for him in the bullpen right now. Even if they make him the most overqualified mop-up man ever, that helps the team more than him being in the minors.
The Marlins take pride in developing their own starting pitching.
Johnny Cueto is the first free agent starter to receive a guaranteed major league deal from Miami since Edinson Vólquez (6 years ago).
Last Sunday, the Phillies switched the start time of a game (from 1:05 to 6:05) based on a weather forecast the night before.
Were the Mets not allowed to do that?
All the other complaints about last night kinda miss the point.
I have seen my first in-person Jazz Chisholm Jr. CF catch
He was yelling "igotit igotit igotit" loud enough to be heard 400 feet away
Communication is key 👌🏻
The winner of the Marlins-Braves series will go to the NLCS (that's a big deal!), but MLB is making it very difficult for its fans to give a shit about them by scheduling 100% of their postseason games in the early afternoon.
Beginning Monday, you'll have a Marlins 'pen of:
L Tanner Scott R David Robertson
L A.J. Puk R JT Chargois
L Andrew Nardi R Jorge López
L Steven Okert Brazoban/Soriano/Fresh Arm
Awesome group *if* Puk & López get straightened out.
"I get Bendix is in his first year. I can't pass judgment on him, but I can pass judgment on Sherman."
Been getting some really thoughtful comments in the aftermath of the Arraez trade...
In reply to me, Peter Bendix says the Marlins have a "really strong group" of analysts who concluded this prospect package is going to provide the team more long-term value than Luis Arraez would have.
Marlins are getting closer to naming the new Head of Baseball Operations. It’s been as secretive as anything I can recall. “Interesting” and “Outside the Box” are terms I have heard. I believe they have their choice. I just don’t know who it is.
I am out at Fish Stripes and bringing my people with me to cover the Marlins for Fish On First.

“Just because something happens at the end of a game doesn't make it intrinsically more important that happens at the beginning.”
Rivera ranks 5th all time in Win Probability Added, two spots ahead of Pedro Martínez, who this guy holds in such high regard
@DodgersNation
This is a hysterical argument coming from an account whose team won its only recent championship during a season in which fans literally couldn't attend the games
Just stating the obvious, but Edward Cabrera should be getting optioned to the minors expeditiously. Likely the corresponding move for Andrew Nardi tomorrow.
How come Jake Mangum (passed over by every team in the Rule 5 Draft) is a "notable addition" while Nic Enright (one of the first players selected) is not?
Cabrera looked incredible. Only walk was a borderline 3-2 pitch. Topped out at 99 mph. Love it when he steals first-pitch strikes with his curveball, which he did several times.
Here he comes...
Edward Cabrera rehab start
#3
:
5.2 IP, 5 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 9 K (82 pitches/58 strikes)
Ready to return to the Marlins during next week's series vs. the Giants.
I have the Marlins going 78-84
•Sandy Alcantara throws a no-hitter
•Huge 2nd half from Edward Cabrera
•11-8 record vs. the Braves
•Still not enough offense (.310 OBP as a team)
I know the Marlins have thrown a few shutouts, but I'd rank tonight as their best-pitched game of the season. Brilliant execution by Garrett, Brazoban and Okert.
Would be a shame to waste it!
Tonight’s game against Miami has been postponed due to weather-related field conditions. It will be made up as part of a single admission doubleheader tomorrow, Wednesday, Sept. 27 beginning at 4:10 p.m.
Jon Berti is rapidly closing in on the all-time Marlins white guy single-season stolen base record
Andy Fox set the record with 31 SB in 2002; Berti is at 23
My Marlins offseason blueprint:
3 major league free agent signings, 6 trades, 3 extensions and other moves on the margins that I would make to set the table for a competitive 2024 season
At first glance, Joey Wendle seemed like a Jon Berti upgrade/replacement.
But he's really more of an Isan Díaz upgrade/replacement. That's a more comparable player profile. Wendle is a deluxe version of Isan who actually hits and plays shortstop (in addition to 2B/3B).
The Miami Marlins are calling up relief pitcher Sean Reynolds per source. Another incredible story. This time it’s a former hitter drafted by Miami, converted to Pitcher. Dominated AAA. If he pitches this weekend it will be his MLB debut.
The only players who played for the Marlins during all 4 seasons of the Derek Jeter era:
Lewis Brinson, Chad Wallach, Magneuris Sierra, Garrett Cooper, Elieser Hernandez, Brian Anderson, Pablo López, Sandy Alcantara and Miguel Rojas
Some of the Marlins players signing today, per sources
LHP Luis Porfirio (Dominican Republic)
C Nixon Chirinos (Venezuela)
INF Joseph Tailor (Dominican Republic)
LHP Keyner Benitez (Dominican Republic)
Lewis Brinson as a Marlin: 52 wRC+
Isan Díaz: 53 wRC+
Magneuris Sierra: 53 wRC+
When will the team finally take the L on them and give us a more watchable product?
