The Marlins take pride in developing their own starting pitching. Johnny Cueto is the first free agent starter to receive a guaranteed major league deal from Miami since Edinson Vólquez (6 years ago).

@RealEly What's the odd of a deal that's already been completed but must be delayed until January 15 because it involves trading the international bonus pool?

@CarlHoops Can teams still do trades with their bonus pool? I genuinely don't know. MLB disallowed that when COVID hit (which shifted the int'l signing period calendar) and I can't recall any trades since then that have involved it.

@RealEly @Erickp0726 Pretty sure this guarantees a trade of some other starting pitcher for hitting.

@RealEly Cueto is a very good signing. Fun to watch. #Cueto can drop some knowledge, pitch well & be flipped at deadline. Shrewd move by @Marlins
