The Marlins take pride in developing their own starting pitching. Johnny Cueto is the first free agent starter to receive a guaranteed major league deal from Miami since Edinson Vólquez (6 years ago).

At least for the moment, Miami has arguably the deepest starting rotation in baseball. But adding Cueto looks like the precursor to a trade.

@CarlHoops Can teams still do trades with their bonus pool? I genuinely don't know. MLB disallowed that when COVID hit (which shifted the int'l signing period calendar) and I can't recall any trades since then that have involved it.
