It’s Eric Ravilious’ birthday today - he was born in Acton #OTD in 1903, although he spent his young life in Eastbourne after his family moved to #Sussex. It’s wonderful there are so many of us who continue to appreciate his work. Long may it continue!

Corporal Stediford’s Mobile Pigeon Loft, Eric Ravilious, 1942. This was at RAF Sawbridgeworth in #Hertfordshire. Even in #WW2 carrier pigeons were a vital part of communications, with many used on D-Day. The original artwork is in the collection of @WhitworthArt.

Belle Tout Lighthouse, Eric Ravilious, 1939. The lighthouse is located overlooking Beachy Head in East #Sussex on the @SouthDownsWayNT. The original Ravilious artwork was sold at @ChristiesInc in 2015 and I believe it is now in a private collection.
