That is the sort of thing my Mother would do, something about bring warmth into the home for the year ahead no doubt. Happy New Year to you.
Am I or we the only people that do this ?, my Grandmother and mother insisted we did it every year , “have you put your coal & money out ? “ , still do it , is it a Lincs or Leicestershire thing , Happy New Year to all .
