Reducing Derlin activity and/or inducing ER stress could potentially be a way to reduce the effect of Notch(gf)- dependent overproliferation/tumours.πππ©ββοΈ 5/6

However reduction of Derlin activity did not strongly enhance a Notch(loss-of-function) phenotype. It didn't suppress overproliferation in general either! We think this suppression applies to certain Notch(gf) alleles, specifically. π― 4/6

We think the Unfolded Protein Response(#UPR) triggered by loss of Derlins, and in conditions of ER stress, serves as a protective mechanism to correct Notch(gf) overproliferation, since reducing the activity of the UPR, reversed this suppression. π§―πͺ3/6

Reduction in Derlin activity reduced the increased spread of SYGL-1, a read out for #Notchsignalling in a Notch(gain-of-function) background. Similar suppression was also seen when we induced ER stress by chemicals.βπ 2/6

π£ πVery happy to share our work, out now in @PLOSGenetics
https://t.co/U5Zj1t13WL. We found that loss of Derlin proteins, best known for their role in ER-associated degradation(#ERAD), suppress Notch-dependent overproliferation in the C.elegans germ line ππ£. 1/6

Weβve just added built-in citation support to GitHub so researchers and scientists can more easily receive acknowledgments for their contributions to software. Just push a CITATION.cff file and weβll add a handy widget to the repo sidebar for you. Enjoy! π

If you want to try @napari_imaging maybe with #clEsperanto or #TensorFlow plus #StarDist NATIVE on your #AppleSilicon Mac, I've finally written up some directions: https://t.co/yP1Jw25wZZ Good luck! #BioImageAnalysis
Got the #StarDist @napari_imaging plugin working #AppleSilicon native tooβwasn't intuitive, but worked... The #Python code way was fine for meβprobably best to get more comfortable with π, but a GUI certainly makes life easier for a quick one-off. #TensorFlow #BioImageAnalysis

@Pi_In_The_Sky @matplotlib I am biased but... I think my #matplotlib tutorials are quite good. I should have a pandas one coming out soon as well: https://t.co/dnWLaL2pkU

The bulk of my PhD work is out! Characterizing a suppressor of a strong Notch-dependent over-proliferation phenotype (aka tumour) lead us to uncover the role of ER-associated degradation proteins (#Derlin) and the Unfolded Protein Response. #ERAD #UPR #ERstress #stemcells

Off on maternity leave for the next several months. Thank you Canadian Tri-Council funding agencies (particularly @CIHR_IRSC) for enabling one year paid mat leaves for trainees and PIs. Pic courtesy @agerholdlab.

If anyone's doing cell tracking/lineage tracing or anything that would benefit from a really great tracking/track editing program, I really recommend mastodon. It's still in alpha, but seems pretty rock-solid to me so far. https://t.co/egzABxZAuT
