Corporate America’s toxic trait is guilting you for wanting more for yourself while simultaneously gaslighting you into thinking your skills, talents, and experiences are worth less than you deserve.🥴
Someone on tiktok commented “you’re 34 and you still take advice from you dad?!”
And honestly I think that’s what’s wrong with this generation.
Also I’m 33

, it escaped my grasp that I could purchase a house before 30. Here’s what I learned buying a house at 26 years old (a thread).
I’ll also add.. I’ve been building 3 businesses on the side, have a six figure investment portfolio, and a whole lot of credit. This was not a throwing caution to the wind scenario. It was also less than ideal. Be inspired but don’t throw your life away bc of optics.
PSA for the full time or part time entrepreneurs going to buy homes traditionally… if you write off your income to avoid taxes, you won’t have enough income to qualify for a mortgage.

Everyone in the comments who disagree with how this went down need to see the following images. OP can face legal action for denying a loan (extension of credit) to buyer based on anything other than buyers ability to repay, regardless of the terms. Buyer made buyers choice 🤷🏾♂️

I personally think it’s nasty work comparing the financial success (or failure) of Black Americans against other ethnic groups in an attempt to deny the existence of generational traumas and systemic racism regardless of our ability to navigate those obstacles.
I’m outside pulling weeds and the owner of the house next to mine says “what do THEY have you out here doing?” I said “they? This is mine.”
He left expeditiously.
Can I just add that the overflow of love and support was unexpected. Like I said I’ve always done everything right. No write ups, never got a do not meets, always did as asked… but the stress and micro aggressions and mismanagement of my talent pushed me out the door.
💎 My dad told me to ALWAYS send an invoice even if you’re doing them a favor.
Send that invoice with your price crossed out. That way they know you are about your business and your discount is a favor to them.

"We can’t control how the Kiyosaki’s, Cardone’s, or Ramsey’s think or feel about their Black audiences. We don’t know their intent other than by what they put out verbally or in written format. But we can certainly control how we elevate them and make them richer."
I'm happy to announce that I am now a contributor to Forbes under personal finance. I will be writing about the intersection of wealth, mental health, and race.
“If you’ve ever attended the scholastic book fair in elementary school you know that students would generally fall into the category of the “haves” or the “have nots”.
I paid a $50 tip on a $60 bill & the waiter comes back & says “are you sure? This is a large tip!” Made his whole day he looked like he was about to cry. This is especially meaningful for me because my income is not regular anymore but you reap what you sow.
Taking this moment to celebrate the fact that I went from wanting to write for Forbes to having 5 articles stacked in the first month of being a contributor. That manifestation is real.
Having to learn how NOT to let people talk over you in a meeting by continuing what you were saying despite their interjection is absolutely a REQUIRED skill set.

The relationship between father and son after the age of 30 is definitely something we need to explore. As a man you think you needed your dad more as a child when the truth is after 30 you need him more than ever.
It’s not imposter syndrome that makes you doubt yourself. It’s the fact that you are measuring your worthiness against people whose lived experiences are different from you. The mere act of overcoming is what got you in those rooms. You can’t compare your story to theirs.

is trending and I want to take this time to remind you all that financial therapists are a thing and that many people need them. Especially Black people.
Just found out I won the Outstanding Community Outreach Leader Award at the Financial Therapy Association conference this year. I’m truly honored .
