One of the biggest critique against @RahulGandhi is that he has done 'nothing' in his political trajectory. I wish to dispel it today. A thread : 35 tweets.

‘India Against Corruption’ was the biggest scam on Indians backed by foreign interests. It pushed back India’s growth by decades. 😒

He was a humble, decent, well educated & well meaning man. His humility & decency was seen as a weakness. I regret having participated in a movement that vilified him & helped a rogue regime come to power

On July 14 2012, Dr. Manmohan Singh had released MGNREGA Sameeksha bought out by the Ministry of Rural Development. This was an anthology of 145 field studies conducted on MGNREGA between 2008 and 2012 - including one by the CAG. It makes for required reading now, amidst the

This is from 2013 when @pbmehta was invoking Niemöller to bash Manmohan and boost Modi. Including a dig at MGNREGA. Given the last 11 years of rampant fascism, it reads even more bizarre.

Modi ji has a deep dislike for two things - the ideas of Mahatma Gandhi and the rights of the poor. MGNREGA is the living embodiment of Mahatma Gandhi’s vision of Gram Swaraj. It has been a lifeline for millions of rural Indians and proved to be a crucial economic safety net

Any serious reader of Indian history is overwhelmed by the quality, nuance and courage in the disagreements that existed between Gandhi, Tagore, Nehru, Bose, Ambedkar, Azad and Patel. Only opportunists will pit one against the other to score political browny points.

The biggest takeaway from the INDIA bloc’s massive defeat in Bihar is that the ‘vote chori’ narrative has no resonance among the people, regardless of its merit. Focusing your narrative on election commission’s credibility in a deeply unequal, poor society is a political suicide.

Please, read books. Not just captions, or carousel posts, or what made it to the top of your feed. Read books. Long ones. Complex ones. You cannot build a mind with weight on the back of social media ephemerals. Intellectual depth demands patience.
