Please, read books. Not just captions, or carousel posts, or what made it to the top of your feed. Read books. Long ones. Complex ones. You cannot build a mind with weight on the back of social media ephemerals. Intellectual depth demands patience.

it makes us believe evil is a linear progression instead of a completely different category of darkness. some behaviors are about impulse. some are about betrayal. some are about predation. mixing them is just confusion. and sometimes, the confusion is deliberate...

and the man who ruins his life with lust is not the same species as the man who ruins other people’s lives with violence. but we put everything under one umbrella and call it “sexual degeneracy.” it’s comforting, I guess. it tidies the world.

there is relational harm. here is predatory harm. these are not the same thing. They don’t grow from the same soil. the man who sleeps around is not automatically a man who violates boundaries. the man who watches porn too much is not secretly nursing a desire to commit crimes.

but moralistic rhetoric hates nuance. It prefers fear. it wants you to believe that “sexual indiscipline” is a slippery slope that ends with you violating children or animals as if all sins are wet and therefore all sins are water. No. There is self-harm.

kitchen to steal stew. a porn addict may ruin his sleep, his focus, his relationships but that doesn’t mean he will climb through his neighbour’s window to watch them shower. humans are perfectly capable of collapsing internally without harming anyone else.

as if cheating too much is the same highway that leads to child abuse. to me, it proves intellectually lazy. there’s a difference between a man who destroys himself and a man who destroys others. a glutton may wreck his savings and liver, but he doesn't break into another man's

Any good thing: God did it. Any terrible thing: The devil is at work. It’s almost elegant, the way we outsource accountability to maintain belief. If an all-powerful being exists, then you have to wrestle with the full spectrum of that power,including the shadows it casts.

its catastrophes, its cruelty, its randomness, your mind naturally tugs at the question that if God is sovereign, then who signed off on the chaos? Because sovereignty without responsibility is just branding. We Humans don’t like discomfort, so we invented an escape hatch.
