Yes, they have. A colony is part of an Empire and Russia had one of the biggest Empires ever. Possibly what they mean is Russia didn't taken part in hostile colonisation, but Russia's Empire expanded all the way from Muscovy to the Pacific coast. It was driven by the fur trade

John Salyer i am not agree with you. Those all countries were a part of Russian Empire. They didn't colonized like England or france or others however they could. That is something respectable for sure

Poland was basically a Russian colony when I worked there in the late 70s. And the other East European countries (with the exception of Yugoslavia) were much the same.
