Exciting! The 1st article from our woman and board games data exploring women's perceptions of board game culture. Thread: ‘I think it takes balls, girl balls, to challenge those stereotypes’: Women’s perceptions of board game culture https://t.co/B4rgssy2mH

Lovely write up of our board game work. It’s such a boost to find out someone’s read something you’ve written

In "‘I think it takes balls, girl balls, to challenge those stereotypes’: Women’s perceptions of board game culture", Ryan Scoats and Marcus Maloney explore board gaming culture from the perspective of women who play modern board games. #OA Read it here: https://t.co/w4lH0Rq2Pd

Additionally, as board games become more mainstream (e.g. board game cafes, sold in high street shops), there seems to multiple board game cultures in existence, some of which are more exclusionary or more welcoming than others

However, there is ample evidence that the culture is in fact often very welcoming. Women in positions of power play a significant role in this, supporting other women and signalling that these are safe spaces. In contrast, no women may act as a red flag

Our first finding suggests that board game spaces are often very intimidating to women; seen as highly nerdy & masculine. Women often don't have the same experience and knowledge of board games which creates barriers to taking part

This is an excellent take and something that came up recently in my analysis/writing up of my women and board games culture data - policing individual’s taste in games and looking down on the less ‘complex’

Here's a piece I wrote with @PsychSexCC about some of our recent articles on consensual non-monogamy and sexual healthcare. How would you feel if you couldn't be open with your doctor...? https://t.co/ZDkpY3Z8o8 via @ConversationUK

In exciting news, I am one of the new associate editors for Psychology & Sexuality as @LiamWignall & @philhammack take the reins! I particularly love its commitment to qualitative work related to sex & sexuality - a perspective all too often overlooked and misunderstood

Doing some research and was surprised to find that that between 1967-2003, group sex between men was a legal offence in England & Wales. Essentially sex between men in private was decriminalised in 1967 but more than 2 people was not considered private https://t.co/MhPDgTKKp4

Immutability or ‘born this way’ arguments were central to the LGBTQ legal and social advocacy efforts. Should consensual non-monogamy go the same route? In my most recent blog I delve into the heart of this discourse: https://t.co/0tLn7lMN0m #relationshipdiversity #polyamory

In another instance of "polyamory is quite discriminated against and nobody is talking about this", Facebook doesn't allow nonmonog ads on its platform.
