Most antihistamines as generics are inexpensive. But irrational combinations with montelukast sell at 2-4 the cost of an antihistamine alone. The drug combinations are nothing but a sinister way to profiteer from common conditions, writes @lancelot_pinto .

17 lakh babies in India are born each year with birth defects, many of which are due to genetic conditions. 1 in 250 children has a treatable genetic disease. Yet, genetic screening at birth is nonexistent in public sector, write @bani_jolly @vinodscaria.

At least 25 papers of a Chennai-based researcher have been retracted in recent months. It will not be surprising if more papers are retracted in the coming weeks and months as many of the papers listed on PubPeer have serious integrity issues .

17 of 23 individuals exposed to chemotherapy had far more genetic mutations than could be explained by normal aging. Eight unique mutational signatures were found only in the chemotherapy group; 4 of them were entirely new to science, writes @vinodscaria.

There’s no evidence linking COVID vaccines to sudden deaths. COVID-19 itself has a significant cardiovascular risk, even years after recovery, vis-a-vis reduced risk of subsequent cardiovascular events, deaths after COVID vaccines, writes @RajeevJayadevan.

For the first time, researchers have sequenced the whole ancient Egyptian genome from an individual who lived 4,500 to 4,800 years ago — the oldest DNA sample from Egypt to date. The body belongs to an adult male — 157.4-160.5 cm tall, & 44-64 years old.
