I found NSERC's letter for my PhD fellowship in 1980! I got $8500/year. To keep up with inflation, NSERC would have needed to raise fellowships to $20,572 by 2003, which they did! Good job! But notice what has happened since 2003... @SupportOurSci

For those unfamiliar with #SupportOurScience - a protest against exploiting academic trainees. @ontariotech_u what are you doing to change this? Currently, your PhD students study >5 years full time plus work 10 hrs/week to survive on about 10K/year (post tuition). Livable?
#SupportOurScience science & scientists in Canada need to be supported. Scientists can’t afford living here and Canada can’t afford to keep losing its talented people to better opportunities outside of Canada. Grad students & post docs struggle in Canada.

Glad to share that one of my projects with Dan Anderson and Bob Langer @kochinstitute @MIT is in print @NatureBiotech! Alongside @UMassChan, we developed a high-throughput chemical strategy to create and test 720 unique ionizable LNPs for gene delivery to lung epithelium. 1/3

Busy weekend working with a grad student to get our preliminary data together in time for grants and fellowship applications! Felt like the firefly, Gaussia, Lucia, and SEAP assays would never end. This would never have been possible without the teamwork.

This is why it took us forever to respond to #COVID19. It takes months to train personnel in high containment labs. Something we had to tirelessly do in early 2020, while simultaneously trying to study the novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2). We need sustainable long term funding.
