@annaegalite: "The education field has tended in recent years to focus on developing principals’ instructional skills as the key to increasing student learning, but this synthesis suggests that effective principals actually use a much broader toolbox." #principalsynthesis

As a classroom teacher have you ever noticed how many times you are interrupted by external factors? Students coming in late, teachers stopping by, admin coming in. All of these interruptions together over a school year equal a lot of instructional time lost. #NELA2022

Students can lose up to 20 days of instruction based on external interruptions that last aprox. 6min a day! What are some ways to combat these interruptions? Are they worth it? #NELA2022

Leaders need to create clear, school norms to limit classroom interruptions and save precious instructional time. Stakeholders should work together to respect the learning environment, develop strong relationships, and move towards common practices. #nela2022

Kraft reveals that “10-20 days of instructional time over the course of a year” can be missed due to classroom interruptions. Is instructional time valued and protected at your school? If not, collect your data and develop norms to minimize these interruptions. #NELA2022

Actions such as communicating by email on non-urgent matters, establishing norms for school-wide announcements, and leaving notes for teachers outside the class rather than walking in, effectively address losing instructional time related to interruptions. #NELA2022

Something is wrong in America when Michael Thompson, a Black man, who sold 3 pounds of weed in 1994, is still in prison in Michigan, a state where it is now legal, yet, Joseph Meili, a white man, who kidnapped & raped an 11-yr-old in Missouri, just got sentenced to probation.
