Centre Parcs plans will irreversably destroy Oldhouse Warren, ancient woodland & within an AONB, turning it into a 900 lodge holiday village. Let's stop them!

YES! Center Parcs have withdawn! The forest is saved from the proposed destructive mega-development in the heart of Worth Forest. WE ARE ELATED! Huge thanks to the community, local councillors, wildlife NGOs who all came together to oppose it. https://t.co/l7rVV0kF7p

Campaigners and experts say holiday park in ancient woodland would have been โdisastrousโ for wildlife

We worked alongside many partners, all with varying tactics but the same focus, to save Oldhouse Warren from Center Parcs. @LandscapesofF led a #MassTrespass, we focussed on community outreach. Together we were stronger, our voices louder.
We won! #Trespass was a major tactic. @Right_2Roam "Most of the forest is forbidden to public access and only by trespass were our campaigners and wildlife surveyors able to introduce people to the forest and survey its rare and precious wildlife." https://t.co/Qj5E1gZvwD

"Oldhouse Warren has one of the largest clusters of ancient trees in Worth & St Leonard's Forests. The gnarled old veteran Oaks, Beeches & occasional Yew trees are survivors of the wildwood" Please help us to protect this #AncientWoodland #WorthSaving

This is how a severely overgrazed temperate rainforest compares to its healthy equivalent.

Another great Oak pollard, this one has at least three diagnostic signs of moving into its 'ancient' phase of life (which can still last for hundreds of years!). It was only discovered after a recent health-related felling of a dense stand of Norway Spruce planted around it.

It's a windy day, & I just found this teeny tiny nest on the ground (5.5 ร 7cm). Made of Sheep's wool, Lichen, horsehair and Forget-me-not stems, it's lined inside with still-green moss and lichen. Anyone know who would have built it? @Natures_Voice @BTO_GBW

A European Larch framed by two Beech stub pollards. The Larch was introduced to Britain from South-Central Europe in the 1620s and now grows commonly and happily anywhere there is drier soil. It has been planted commercially in Oldhouse Warren, but this pretty one is self-seeded.

We must stop Center Parcs from destroying this ancient woodland near Crawley in Sussex. It would be completely unacceptable to lose this irreplaceable habitat to a holiday park! Drop in and find out more! Turners Hill 11th February

A classic veteran Oak pollard, cut at about head height to frustrate browsing animals. Pollards were cut on a rotation, either 2-6 years for leafier animal fodder, or 8-15 years for wood for all manner of construction, farm implements & vehicles, boat-building & other uses.

This place is a vital standfast for rare and important species, from its assemblage of veteran and ancient trees to rare plants, fungi and algae hanging on by nameless marshy brooks. It retains features of the primeval wildwood, with temperate rainforest indicator species.

Incredible walk to remotest part of River Mole headwaters deep in Worth Forest. Discovered wild ancient prehistory, archaeology and wildlife paradise. All of it just clinging on despite endless threats. My guide was expert naturalist Dave Bangs author of Field Guide to the Weald.
