Anyone else have @PLOSONE refuse to review your manuscript because you supposedly didn't have IRB approval to recruit human subjects despite you submitting evidence that you did? I'm in Bizarro World with them and can't figure out a path forward

Agree with this about taking risks. During my job talk years ago, I was advised to have a black slide near the end. No text. My advisor said that the audience will all turn to you, so you better have something good to say. I tried it. They all looked. I got the job.
💡 Presentation tip: Your first slide and last slide are often on the screen for the longest time. Use these to communicate something interesting, thought-provoking, or important. For instance, use your main takeaways as your Conclusion slide.

Love this video. If they need someone with a stutter to voice Darth Vader going forward, @Lucasfilm and @Disney can give me a call
JAMES EARL JONES talking about his speaking role as Darth Vader and the struggles he's faced with his iconic voice. #RIPJamesEarlJones

Remember that the University does not recognize The Tortured Poets Department as an official tenure initiating unit. Please direct all complaints on this matter to @ass_deans

During her qualifying exam long ago, Kate @MoBLNCSU was asked a question about arm wrestling and muscle moment arms. I think this summarizes her answer

I agree with all of this. With my study section this week, here is another tip: Consistently phrase the purpose of your work for the entire proposal. Adding/changing a word each time you write the purpose can slightly change the focus of the work, which confuses the reviewer
We just finished the specific aims page assignment in our professional skills course for PhD students (and, coincidentally, I had study section last week). Here are a few writing issues I see a lot that are easy to fix if you know to look for them.

2 emeritus faculty members just walked into the main office wearing hoodies and sweatpants. Career goals, right there.

Agree. As a close second, thank past faculty members whose behavior in the classroom needed to improved in future classes
Students complaining about the syllabus, let me tell you who you have to thank for these monsters: Past students. The longest syllabi are paved with years of students screwing up in new and varied ways and faculty and admin needing to cover our asses.

Congratulations to Dr. Rebekah Koehn @rebekahkoehn! Terrific work on neuromuscular control after TKA. Her thoughts on the defense: "That was fun!" Thanks to @BiomechAjit, Laura Schmitt, and Anne Kloos, too. @OhioStateMAE
