This year, I gave a @TEDx talk called "Robots that Think on their Feet". I told stories about making robots adapt to our world, and how they parallel my own adaptation to being marooned in Fiji on Survivor: Thanks to @TEDxFSU for the awesome opportunity!

The Raibert hoppers were a triumph in the nascent days of legged robotics. Walking was too hard… so why not run first?. A clip from today’s coding stream with @shiffman from @thecodingtrain:.

Robotics Coding Livestream Imminent!. I’ll be joining the fantastic Dan @shiffman of Coding Train to talk about how to make robots hop and run. Can we make a simulation of a hopping robot before we get too hungry for lunch?. Find out at 11am ET today!.

What’s the deal with all these humanoid robots? Are they crewing a mission to Mars?. I had a fun chat with @esherifftv all about it. Why there’s a boom in humanoid robots, their limitations, and their prospects for space travel and working in our world.

I’ve actually been enjoying posting over on BlueSky. I just wish we had more robotics people over there.

In LOVE with this new trend! . NGL this was lowkey kind of hard, but I think it turned out super pretty! . Also feel like it's giving fallout or the backrooms. right?

It’s called the Odeleite River. It went viral for its dragon shape after a British photographer published an aerial photo in 2010. The moment you’re wowed by a fact is exactly the moment to stop and check it.

What sticks out to me is how dynamic the motion is. It doesn’t rely upon stationary support of the feet to stabilize the maneuver (no issue as the feet slide).

I would love to see an uncut video of a full performance to see how representative these quick cuts are of the true hardware/control reliability. But even so, I find this impressive.

The sheer number of humanoids they have choreographed in unison while not firmly planted on two feet is a notable accomplishment. That would be way easier, but they’re actually (briefly) falling from foot to foot, needing to rely on robust control algorithms to stay balanced.
