Fragmenting care costs more+ lower quality care. meantime qualified GPs can't get jobs in practices (complex but increased costs of running practices, underfunding /instability). far better to invest in stable core NHS GP (and read evidence on walk in services!)
NEW: John Swinney announces a network of 15 walk-in GP services to deliver 1m extra appointments Open 7 days a week, open 12 to 8. No appointment needed "They will break from the status quo," he tells SNP conference BUT, only ONE open by the end of the year, + Qs about cash

Farage’s plan to scrap indefinite leave could collapse the NHS… Which would be incredibly good news for someone wanting us to move to an ‘insurance based system’ FYI the average American pays £480 per month for private healthcare Please wake up folks. https://t.co/7UW5J1Ktqs

In November, I expressed my concern that the Assisted Dying Bill could not provide adequate safeguards against abuse and social coercion. I am still not satisfied - and that is why I voted against this legislation.

I’m genuinely shocked that this incredibly ill thought law has succeeded. When I worked in a hospice, we had to fundraise approximately £10,000 a day to keep it fully functioning. To see this bill succeed before palliative care is fully funded and available is almost

.@kimleadbeater you are misleading the House before today’s vote. You know the Royal College of Psychiatry - the experts in capacity & coercion - has explicitly opposed your bill. It breaks my heart that you would use a sleight of hand to mislead MPs and the public in this way.

Have had (more than) enough of Twitter/x. Bad for mental health, democracy, peace, humanity. I’m not a very active social media user anyway but each user feeds the profits of a fascist. Going to use Bluesky Social if you want to follow me there.

To say there's not enough money for more palliative care is one thing. To do so while bringing in assisted death for people who need palliative care is another. Given there is not enough money for less drastic alternatives, and death is cheaper, this bill shouldn't be on table.
Should each assisted suicide applicant get a meeting with a palliative care specialist? When MPs proposed this, care minister Stephen Kinnock raised a “concern” that it “would increase demand for palliative care specialists”. He joined Kim Leadbeater in voting down the proposal.

In 1968 Finland banned for profit education, the few private schools that exist in Finland have to reinvest any profit they make or pay it back to parents. It has been in the Top 3 in education for the last 20 years. There should be no profit in education or healthcare.
