When the #BlueTrain commenced operations in Dec 1922, PLM had already initiated a number of other deluxe trains for the Med including a #boattrain for Marseille based liners. Poster by Roger Broders promoting the destination. Discover more: https://t.co/DEmU53BSUO #LuxuryTravel

This weekend marks the centenary of one of the world's most iconic #LuxuryTravel trains, the original celebrated #BlueTrain, steaming out of Calais bound for the #FrenchRiviera on 9 Dec 1922. A flurry of press activity ensured a 'who's who' of society from both sides of the pond.

Time to look at what’s new in the world of #LuxuryRailwayTravel. A new Accor #OrientExpress2 is coming repurposed from 17 historic Orient Express coaches including bar and dining cars. Art Deco designs fused by French architect Maxime d’Angeac capture a #deluxetravel style of old

Just completed @christianwolmar’s magnificent tome on British Railways. Prior to sectorisation, didn’t quite appreciate the pervasive influence of the ‘Barons’ and the ‘Bishops’ & the levels of insipid government interference! excellent #holidayreading reflective #businesshistory

In 1905 the Great Northern set up its own steamship company with 2 liners of magnificent 1st-class passenger accommodation - Dakota & Minnesota - built in Connecticut yards. They were the largest ships of the Pacific region. Edwardian travellers had an alternativ to the Far East.

The Oriental Limited was a deluxe train with an exemplary culinary offer. Known for its afternoon tea service where promptly at 4.00pm, a dining car waiter served tea and a uniformed maid served platters of dainty cakes to passengers.

Same goes for good friends at Golden Eagle Luxury Trains. All those communities across that great geographical expanse no longer able to rely on visitor income. Fortunately GE also have their Danube Express.
