Me and the Liberal tradition of trying to see the face of Christ in every person, and thus wanting the state to treat us as if we all have the same inherent value, is merely a pretense to destroy society.
Liberalism is the mysticism that seeks to obscure, deny, and eventually destroy the hierarchies of society. The pretense that we are all equal obscures a myriad of inequalities. The left finds them objectionable and wrong, the right finds them inevitable and right.

Never understood the Dewey hate. You don’t need to agree with him (though he was a pretty sensible R) but his time as New York governor was a triumph. Wage increases, anti-discrimination legislation, SUNY, infrastructure, etc. Are people mad that he ran New York better than FDR?
you get three years of working with a D congress to reinforce the new deal and achieve victory in the War then willkie dies suddenly in 1944 and you have luce, bricker, dewey, and hoover coming out of the woodwork with their whatever insane plans they developed this week

"a clumsy, predictably partisan campaign ... further convincing those who broadly share the views of cultural conservatives (at least half the country) that their concerns are entirely alien to the established Church." Link below.

Good morning! Happy Wednesday! I thought some yellow would go well with the charcoal suit today. (Waist coat and jacket not pictured)

Neither the left nor the right truly “get” New England. New England, at her core, is both a liberal project committed to those old liberal rights but it is grounded deeply in a faith in God and his justice and mercy. One without the other is simply an incomplete picture.

It is right that the CofE challenges ethno-nationalist attempts to claim Christmas. It is odd, however, that this energy was absent when local government, statutory bodies, big business, and secular opinion denied the Christian nature of Christmas. https://t.co/dLTaMC1IeU

I’d like to write many of my mutuals Christmas cards but that requires a lot of trust that the internet has taught me is often misplaced. A shame really. I try to make all my cards as personalized as possible and honestly enjoy writing them.

My research into Canadian culture history is, admittedly, very limited. But to deny that Canadian tradition and history is not deeply interwoven with her identity as the loyal dominion? It seems odd. An example of the British and Canadian synthesis is found in the RCMP uniform.
Canada doesn’t have many true traditionalists, just a lot of Anglophiles who larp as traditionalists. The tell is when they react with bug-eyed delight at some weird British thing that has never been part of Canadian culture, like judges wearing wigs.

The amount of people in the comment section who seemingly cannot grasp this concept is honestly disheartening. Regional politics were, up until about a decade ago, a very real thing. My only saving grace is that many of them weren’t New Englanders.
Vermont polls be like:. "Is the existence of the Republican party the biggest threat to the existence of mankind? Yes - 85% No - 7% "Should the next Dem president hang all Republicans?" Yes - 70% No - 20% 2026 governor election: Phil Scott (R) - 70% Generic Dem - 9%

She was the true rockstar in “It’s a Wonderful Life”. She was a patient wife, always giving, volunteered, raised 4 kids, and when George was at his lowest she rallied the entire community. I love me some Mary Bailey.

Don’t let the door hit you on the way out, you lousy lamentable lout!
70 years ago today 🎂 Clement Attlee steps down as Labour leader after 20 years in charge. The Times leads the tributes to the man who would be remembered as being "distressed by the needs of the needy, the poverty of the poor and the lack of opportunity for the many".

Nothing quite like going to the local diner for breakfast after a Sunday service.

As far as Connecticut goes? I think one could effectively save Bridgeport, New Haven, and Hartford. The other cities are beyond saving (Waterbury) or are Norwalk (terrible).
