As word of the president's condition spreads across the country, there are isolated stories of celebrations among his adversaries. Future student leader Tom Hayden remembers "a guy with a Goldwater button" standing up and cheering after hearing of the president's death.

Nick Fuentes has gotta be going through the biggest emotional rollercoaster ever. If they catch the assassin and it's a leftist then he inherits the kingdom of right-wing Gen Z. If it's a groyper then Trump crushes him. If they never catch the killer then he's scared for his life

the whole attempt to recast Charlie Kirk posthumously as a moderate is bizarre. I don’t think he would’ve ever described himself as a moderate

Wrong. Tolerance (Tolerantia) is the Christian virtue of patiently enduring evil, acquiring a political aspect with the later scholastics. Aquinas includes it as an aspect of fortitude in ST IIaIIaeQ128 The only way in which this post is “trad” is that, technically, illiteracy is

@ZohranKMamdani @FIFAWorldCup Should the same thing be done for Broadway plays? Should we set aside discounted theater seats at every Hamilton show for locals being priced out?

we should abhor political violence. nonetheless, i do not think we should have a two-tiered justice system where violence against liberals is the funniest shit in the world while randos jeering at conservatives is prosecuted and/or leads to removal from political life

very bluntly, these are not good or competent people and all they ever do is try to anonymously shift blame for their own failures. they are going to keep doing this until they stop getting offered the chance to give "off the record" statements.

i think it's bad practice for a news outlet like Axios to keep giving these people space but i think it's outstandingly pathetic if you are a Biden aide who needs a shield of anonymity to stand up for your own decisions, who is willing to dish out but never face consequences

this is the same thing that happened with "Original Sin" where Biden aides were allowed to issue anonymous statements about how much faith they had in their boss that they would never actually have to be associated with

you can tell BidenWorld is a powerful force because they refuse to go on the record and are instead just raging anonymously about how unfair people are being to them

I think the “years of lead” thing originated as a noided but not uninformed theory about state actors driving polarisation, became a funny joke (“years of lead paint”) & migrated to a straightforward analogy that doesn’t make sense for lots of reasons, Carlo’s point first.

I see people mentioning the Italian Years of Lead. The analogy seems weak. The Red Brigades sought a Marxist revolution. Their socio-historical analysis was ridiculously wrong but they had one. I see nothing comparable in the US today, just chaotic online-driven political hatred.

Invoking the Spanish Civil War (or the Russian Revolution, etc) functions for Republicans in the same way analogising Trump as Hitler did for Democrats: an apocalyptic fantasy of Great Politics superimposed on a society in systemic crises it lacks the internal resources to resolve
