Wasn't just the pass rush, CJ supposed to be covering Kelce on the crossing route but can't because he slips. Both teams had to deal with this obviously, just ruins the product for the NFL when defense can't be played. Not a surprise both teams score 30+.

They never run it just one way. There's small variations & differences among the ways they run it, whether that's alignment, snap count, gap selection, trying to plow ahead straight forward or waiting a split second and then going over the top.

1st-he blitzes at about league avg rate.
2nd-he uses simulated pressures at the highest rate in the league
His combined blitz + sim pressure rate is 2nd highest in NFL.

The Eagles 37 points is the most allowed by the Bills defense this year (31 in regulation is the most as well).
The Bills were 5th in PPG allowed (17.3) coming into Week 12.

Over the past 2 seasons, Bryce Huff is 1st in pressure rate & 2nd in pass rush win rate (via PFF).
If you want to consider pressure/sack quality, look at Brandon Thorns True Pressure/Sack scores. Huff is also beating ELITE tackles, not just replacement level players.
Mentioned in my offseason guide that this was a possibility. Imagine there was disagreement on contract.
This actually helps the Eagles in cap this year and next year + assets in return.
If I'm the Eagles I'm going for Bryce Huff this offseason.

Huff is more than just an extremely athletic speed rusher. His got a tremendous rush plan and his counters have counters. And he gets to them quickly. That will translate with more snaps. I'll have a video out by tomorrow morning.

This is huge in regards to the Reddick trade.
I thought the biggest obstacle to Reddick hitting his playing time threshold was JFM taking away a lot of early down snaps.
With him gone, Reddick has a much better path to playing enough snaps to hit the 2nd RD conditions.
Another Jets-Broncos trade: Jets are sending DE John Franklin-Myers, who has started 50 games the past three seasons, to the Broncos in an exchange for a 2026 6th-round pick, per sources.
Within the past week, the Jets have traded Franklins-Myers and Zach Wilson to the Broncos.

People are really splitting hairs on the Pickett trade. There's not enough good QBs for all 32 teams to have a good starter, idk why people think there's a plethora of great back ups. Compared to the options available & factoring in contract savings, it's a solid move.

If Sirianni is gone, I think the next coach needs to be able to maximize the organizations biggest investment.
Slowik has shown the ability to get the most out of his QBs. Also like that he started his NFL journey on the defensive side. He knows what stresses defenses the most.
Bobby Slowik was born in Princeton, New Jersey. That’s roughly one hour away from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
He’s widely regarded as one of the best young offensive minds in the NFL right now.

Just because JD hasn't lived up to a 1st round pick doesn't mean he's a bad player. He's solid for his role as a run stopper, and 2nd year players are by no means a finished product. There's a middle ground between being good or being bad.
I think we have to face the music here. We're two seasons in. Jordan Davis is a bad football player.
Forcing a pick @ NT because of need is 100% as bad as forcing Reagor because you need a deep threat.

One of Nakobe's strengths coming out of college was blitzing, should see more of that w/ amount of creepers Fangio uses. Often gets the LB a one-on-one with a RB.
Creepers are also a good way to force a RB to stay in for protection while the defense maintains 7 in coverage.

Parris Campbell has been more of a slot/gadget player in his career.
Of 115 WRs w/150 targets since 2019, he's 103rd in ADOT. But he ranks 14th in missed tackles/rec.
Kellen Moore likes using his WRs in run game (12th in WR runs in Dallas, 6th in LA), Campbell could fill role.

Love this play design from Kellen Moore.
Motion across moves LB (54) off edge. That gives both TEs a free release to 2nd level & gives the TE (83) much better leverage to seal the LB that walked off the edge (54).

Eagles much easier to defend when they don't throw to anyone else.
Vs Bills, a few occasions where they vacated middle of field to put extra defenders on AJ/DeVonta side knowing very unlikely Jalen throwing to anyone else.
It's probably worth noting that Jalen Hurts never attempted a pass to a receiver that wasn't AJ Brown, DeVonta Smith, or Dallas Goedert

Perception is different than reality. Sweat & Burns incredibly similar production past 3 seasons.
Burns slightly higher sack rate (2.1 vs 1.9). Sweat higher PRW rate. Burns technically higher pressure rate but remove unblocked & cleanup pressures & Sweat higher pressure rate.
Josh Sweat is one year older than Brian Burns and hasn’t produced at the same level.
Haason Reddick has had better production than Burns but he’s also four years older.
Both players likely want extensions as well.
My guess is the Eagles could land a third-round pick and a day…

I mean, he had one top five and two top 10 run offenses in Dallas. I think they look at the Chargers last year and ignore that they were also terrible in 2022 to make their point. Seems like the Chargers run issues were deeper than just play calling/design.

At it's core, coaching is teaching. Vic has proven to be one of the better teachers in the NFL. I'm all for this if it happens.

Nobody is saying he's too small to tackle. It's that he has a very bad habit of ducking his head and not wrapping up. Saw some improvement last night but still several plays where he just drops his head. Dangerous for him. Love Sydney by the way and think he has a bright future.

It's not true. They "save" the $14.25M that was unguaranteed base salary, but they have to take on all of his dead cap hit due to his signing & roster bonuses still due ($14.7M). The savings is that they don't pay any dead cap next year if he had played out his contract & walked.

It's important to keep in mind as the draft & FA approaches.

Before I got into the film I thought the Eagles needed to get a lead back in FA. After diving into the draft class, they can find several players there. Still need to sign players for depth, but I would rather go the draft route tbh

I think you are crazy if you say no. This feels like it could be the AJ Brown trade for the defense.
Elite EDGE, in his prime, you would still have multiple picks in the 2nd and 3rd round, could get even more in a Reddick deal.
No brainer to me.

The replies to this are funny. Here's Montez vs Josh pass rush stats past two season. Josh higher PRW, Montez higher pressure rate. But also consider, Montez had 21 more unblocked or clean up pressures. Remove those and Sweat has a higher pressure rate...(1/3)
Recent trade comps for Josh Sweat: Montez Sweat and Bradley Chubb.
Montez Sweat netted No. 40 overall and was only under contract for half a season.
Chubb got a 1st.
Personal opinion: Josh Sweat has more trade value than Reddick. 1st-rd pick is likely asking price.

He keeps beating the same backup tackles that are rated as some of the worst in the NFL. He's played Cleveland and Tennessee twice since being traded. If he's doing this against good tackles next year then I'll get mad.

Regardless of who the DC was going to be, the most important job this offseason is getting more impact players on this defense.
Look at top defenses around the league the past several years. They have impact players at all 3 levels.

Based on temperature of Eagles nation, it feels like Sirianni/Hurts have never won a game w/o AJ, much less make the playoffs w/o him. Obviously his loss hurts, but DeVonta, Goedert, Swift and $250M QB should still be able to put up points. Defense is what's gonna let us down.

...Remember, Reddick likely wanted much more than what Huff signed, so numbers are conservative.
So Eagles swap players for cheaper & add guaranteed assets later. As far as comp picks, those are never gtd due to several factors & at best it's essentially an early 4th round pick

Exactly. So they're not opening up $14M in space this year. The main benefit is that he no longer has a dead cap hit in 2025. Which is more important for long term signings anyway, considering Howie back loads contracts.

You don't always have/need hots, especially when you have enough in protection to pick up the blitz. They do have enough, just didn't protect it properly. AJ comes open up over the middle, play would've been fine if the protection was adjusted to pick up the blitz properly.

The Giants lead the league in combined pressure + sack rate allowed this season (using SIS pressure stats). Good to see the pass rush get back on track but need to see this continue against good teams.

Using PFF pass blocking grades, this will be his easiest match up since KC where he had his 4th best pressure rate of season.

Seems like a bit of a reach on the contract for Burns based on production. Interesting see him paired with Kayvon, who was 98th! in pressure rate last season. That's on top of him being 2nd in unblocked pressures. He thrived with Wink getting him free looks.
