. practitioners need to think about what and why they're measuring force .(e.g. if it's to relate to hamstring injury risk then test the eccentric strength of the hamstrings). this is about understanding fundamental biomechanics principles of performance and injury!.

. the IMTP does not give you 'max strength'. an isometric squat gives you higher forces (leakage through multiple joints and grip?). you cannot get consistent joint angles in IMTP (force-length) to compare across the squad (just check google for variation in position). .

I could call out even more limitations of the IMTP, which I believe is being adopted with no real understanding why. Yes, it's a measure of strength (akin to lifting weights). BUT. it's a 'push-pull'. which bears minimal association with sports movements.

Respect the work of these guys, but only @PhilipGrahamSm2 called out some limitations of CMJ. I get it as the cornerstone of jump testing, but we don’t recognize it’s limits enough. It’s a medium speed SSC. Not fast like 5/10. Not fast enough eccentric for many sports.

A slight change to the day job helping to curate this exhibition at the @McrSciFest. Come down to see what @McrInstSport @ManMetUni are doing to help reduce ACL injuries in female football. Great to be able to show how @VALDPerformance @forcedecks are being used to monitor jumps

I'd drop the 'S' and get coaches to focus more on the 'C'. start with a needs analysis of the sport/event, (key positions and movements in skills, mechanisms of main injuries) and focus on making them fit for purpose . not just getting them strong on a lifting platform.

I think a big US problem in S+C is that we see everything through an “American football lens”. Most of the athletes we deal with aren’t playing football but S+C is so heavily football influenced we see everything from a football view.

Probably the best Iso Squat data I've ever collected in terms of peak force and symmetry, it's great how you can still get a buzz from testing athletes even after 30 years! @VALDPerformance @forcedecks

Just because you have a phone with a camera, it doesn't make you a biomechanist. But how can coaches effectively use video analysis?
