10 years ago today, @craigbarowsky and I left our day jobs to focus on a little side project we called @DataKind. Little did we know that was the beginning of a grand adventure in trying to use data and AI for the greater good 1/x

@SFPD Thanks so much for help in finding his kids! Here is a GoFundMe for Jeffrey and his family. Please help them take some time off from the gig economy to recover from this traumatic incident: https://t.co/PLCeVBL7Um

People probably won't do this but supermarkets could allow them to add carbon offsets to their purchases like they do donations to charities. Would generate awareness of the link between food and carbon and probably generate a non-trivial amount of money

For those who are able to: please try to scrape and save any videos and livestreams of the Capitol storming and occupation. Just like after Charlottesville in 2017, many of those who are streaming will delete their streams once they realize how incriminating the footage is.

The really awful part is that shooting or gassing pigs is just what the American Veterinary Medicine Association says you should do when you need to "depopulate" a group of animals https://t.co/VS0ouhUFOk

Tomorrow's April 1. You probably know people who are going to be struggling more than usual to pay their rent. If you still have your job and can afford it, consider helping some of them out with no strings attached.

I hope transportation agencies around the country are taking advantage of reduced hours and ridership to batch up improvements. This, with bus lane expansion and street reclamation could lead to real improvements once we're through to the other side
Our ridership is now at 8% of what it is usually is. We served 31,142 riders on Friday. We’ve been doing some home improvement during low ridership and taking advantage of closing at 9pm. Crews were doing electrical work at El Cerrito del Norte last night.

If you/someone you know in California is being affected by #COVID19 & struggling with getting: - Unemployment (reduced hours; lay-off) - Paid family leave (if you have to stay home to care for someone) - Short-term disability (if you get sick) You can send them my way for help.

In addition to helpful explainers on how to properly wash our hands, people should also be sharing @3blue1brown's video on exponentials so we can all get a better sense of the kind of process we're dealing here

It's the sense of impending dispossession by people who don't live like you, not a potential decrease in asset value, that really hits the emotional buttons

The first paragraph of the capped comment gets at (IMO) the core of NIMBY psychology: the feeling of anger and resentment at having the environmental basis of your way of life ("neighborhood character") taken away from you by outsiders
Type II NIMBY in the wild. Advice to young people: “just move, lol.” and “I got mine.” Also bristled at the notion that their single family home is ‘luxury.’ @nextdoorsv @preservememes

Livable California is diversifying its board and expanding its reach as it gears up for round three of fighting Sacramento’s efforts to do away with single-family zoning.

.@tigoe there should be a physical computing with machine learning class at @ITP_NYU. So many possibilities!
After an epic push with @dansitu we've just finished the last chapter of our book on @TensorFlow Lite for Microcontrollers. This is only the first draft, so there's a lot more work to come, but it feels great to make it this far. Thanks to everyone who's helped!

Additionally, in doing the excruciating work needed to get these difficult questions right, moderators are creating the very training data used to further automate the process, leaving them with even more difficult tasks in the future
