Crews are out trying to keep at least a lane of traffic open along the I-240 corridor with snow and sleet that has already fallen. More sleet expected through the next several hours before a lull - then freezing rain threat emerges late tonight, into early Sunday.

'Debris detector' has other uses - we can see where the transition between the sleet and snow - we know its snowing in Memphis, but the sleet is mixing in near the Coldwater River. Farther south its sleet and freezing rain.

Batch of heavier snow/sleet in eastern Arkansas may put down a quick inch or two a few spots as it moves east. Should move into Memphis and Shelby County around 4 AM. Roads are already getting covered with blowing snow.

As snow, sleet and freezing rain begin to fall across the Mid-South - the potential for significant storm impacts remain across the Action News 5 coverage area; extreme impacts across our south/east areas from the ice storm.

Roads are turning wet southwest of Little Rock with temps near freezing. As this moves into this very dry Arctic air - at least initially, it may evaporate before getting to the ground. Once the air mass moistens up, we’ll be into our first wave over the next few hours.

Memphis and Shelby County will be threading the needle; on the edge of the freezing rain shield. The range in ice accumulation from Collierville (heavier) to Millington (lighter) could be night and day. A subtle nudge in the system north or south can make a HUGE difference.

This system won't be a set it and forget it situation in Memphis and Shelby County - there will be a lot of back and forth messiness between snow, snow/sleet - then to sleet, mixing in freezing rain - then back to sleet and finishing up with snow on Sunday afternoon.
