Each participant was paired up with a Paraorchestra musician and encouraged to explore their craft by learning and performing two pieces: ‘Straylight’ by @GleaveRylan and ‘Looking Back’ composed by Liam Taylor-West especially for the occasion.

Disabled musicians face barriers from the very beginning of their careers, and Play with Paraorchestra was created as a direct response to this – to give young people the experience of playing in a setting that is both supportive and challenging.

This weekend, five young music-makers joined forces with our ensemble for Play with Paraorchestra: a two-day workshop designed to give young musicians experience of rehearsing and performing in a professional environment.

Our artist development programme Modulate continues apace with the first instance of Play With Paraorchestra, a new residential weekend for young disabled music creators, plus some exciting R&D sessions with our intrepid musicians in residence.

We’re getting ready to kickstart the new year with a host of new performances and projects. In just the first six months, we’re premiering Dance Like Nobody’s Watching, The Bradford Progress, and our London debut of The Virtuous Circle.

As this busy year draws to a close, we’re taking the opportunity to reflect on some of our favourite moments. From welcoming 12 new musicians to our ensemble, to our BBC Proms debut, 2024 has been a whirlwind.
