It explores recent literature that uses law and social science methods to better understand household financial distress and overindebtedness both inside and outside of bankruptcy. And it outlines a research agenda to contribute to sociological and sociolegal research agendas.

Contracts students: I just learned that Prof. Ian Ayres made 80 YouTube videos covering almost every area of contract law. This is an incredible resource if you're having trouble understanding something and want a reliable but accessible explanation.

Along w/ its piece about Exeter Finance's handling of auto loan deferments, @propublica published this explanation of the consequences of a deferment, complete with a calculator overviewing what someone might owe at the end of their loan. Useful and necessary info for borrowers!
Having trouble with car loan payments? Your lender might offer you a deferment or extension, but our reporting shows lenders arenβt always up front about how much these deferments will cost you in the long run. https://t.co/cfM8PNpphj

Exeter Finance says "we're here to help," but its auto loan extensions often do anything but that. @ByardDuncan and @ryangabrielson show how with their dive into Exeter's practices (and the overall booming subprime auto loan business). Great read!

Excited to contribute to @HLSBankruptcy Blog's series about the Purdue Pharma decision with @Jonathan_Lipson. Thanks for including us @HLSBankruptcy!
In today's post, Professors @Jonathan_Lipson and @PamelaFoohey argue that the Purdue Pharma decision is best viewed in the light of "bankruptcy exceptionalism," and discuss the extent to which "structural exceptionalism" survives after the decision:
