This transformation represents so much energy, care and commitment from a small group of people. Sadly though, the fate of this special space hangs in the balance due to the visionless TMO now saying that they only gave consent for the trees to be planted temporarily!!! 1/2

We've written again to all London councils, asking them to use all channels available to publicise the dangers of emissions from burning. If you'd like to do similar, you can use the template letter on our website 👇. #AirPollution #WoodBurning https://t.co/qGxqEeyhq7

The UK has dug up many of its orchards and now imports 70% of its apples, often from across the world. Planting apple trees in our gardens and communities - and protecting those we have - can cut food miles, soak up CO2, help wildlife, and can help save traditional varieties🍎

What's the rush? You don't have to tidy too much 😉 There are so many creatures hiding in the nooks and crannies, snug inside the stems, sleeping under the petal and leaf duvet, confident they've found a safe place to survive the winter ☺️ A whole new world hides in decay!

Regarding the recent application by @NFUtweets to allow 'emergency' use of neonics on sugar beet, this image explains the problem: most of the pesticide goes into soils, leaches into waterways, & is taken up by wildflowers & hedgerows. Only 5% in crop. https://t.co/M3ltdM3U8Z

Here are different ways to limit the kill rate of your cat. A recent figure from the Mammal Society estimates that cats in the UK catch up to 27 millions birds each year, and 275 million prey items overall per year. https://t.co/ZP9HIAFEu8

Massive thanks from all the Redwings , Fieldfares , other thrushes and finches , maybe even Waxwings , to this considerate ‘custodian of the countryside’ . No berries on here this winter . . . But don’t worry , our farmland birds are not in critical decline @NFUtweets

Farmers are being asked to cut their hedges once every two to three years instead of annually, as well as let them grow a bit longer to help nature thrive:

What's absolutely essential is that if seal pups are on a beach you stay off the beach. All dogs on leads. NO selfies with seal pups! It's a critical time for seals. They need our help.

We are approaching peak seal pup season and we couldn't be more excited! 💚 Remember, if you see a seal or seal pup stay well back to avoid spooking them. https://t.co/CcQlScTt1v 📷 Tom Marshall

The sweet smell of wood burning is largely caused by the presence of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), particularly syringol and guaiacol. These chemicals are released when lignin, a key component of wood, breaks down during combustion. Both compounds are typically present

**No need to seed**. In all of these photos, degraded, formerly farmed ground, recovered itself, quickly, with a species-rich flora with no seeding. Nature did it. Local genetics. Local specialities & rarities. No cost. Something to think on...

.@RCPCHtweets' new report couldn't be clearer: 🔥 Wood burning is severely affecting children's health ⚖️ Those most affected are those who contribute least to the problem 🚫 Wood burning must be phased out, especially in urban areas https://t.co/NONrXuuIbP

We need to boost street-level flood protection in London. Where there is a combined system rain goes down drainpipes & into sewers. Instead the green spaces in front of many properties could have small basins created to take the rain & slowly release it. A boost to Nature too.

Why are we still spraying glyphosate, a probable carcinogen, in Hackney in 2024 in the midst of a biodiversity crisis? This was in De Beauvoir Square. #pesticidefree #naturerecovery #biodiversitycrisis
