It’s one thing to lose a game, it’s another thing to lose a teammate and player in a tragic situation.
Loved watching you play, 10. You helped me grow as a coach and as a person. Prayers and support to the Homayouni family in this challenging time.
There are a lot of ways to go about reading routes in play design as well. Triangles, pure progressions, inside-out, outside-in, high-to-low, low-to-high, etc.
Tom Brady was once a 7th stringer at University of Michigan. He was depressed, doubting himself, and contemplating moving home. He now has the more Super Bowl rings than any franchise in NFL history.
To the backups, to the self-doubters, to the homesick, it can get better.
This week's 90 is so good and does things that are absurd play of the week as he imitates a MLB from his DE spot and mirrors all the way down to make the stop. Goofy.
Got to visit DJ Uiagalelei up at Oregon State and enjoyed chatting with him. He was VERY candid about his frustrations at Clemson—and why he has no regrets about going there, and also why he’s so excited about his new situation in Corvallis:
“Look at your locker room...it tells you everything you want to know about your team. Is it messy? Do all the lockers look the same? That’s important because it’s about details.”

Conversations about “our kids can’t do that,” should primarily only be made regarding the time intensiveness of an install.
Ex: Your kids can probably run Cover 7, but you have to decide if it’s worth the install and rep time.
That’s where I’ve become more “minimalist.”
My takeaway from isolation from a ball perspective is that I know absolutely nothing about football in comparison to many dudes out there. It's wild to see how much people know. Thank the Lord for Twitter.
Earlier today during his first clinic session,
@DarinSlack
said something to the effect of, "the biggest impact you can have on a kid is bringing them to a point where the figure something out for themselves," and it's really echo-ing in my brain.
RIP Alex Gibbs, one of the most influential coaches in NFL history.
“If you’re not running the ball against 2-high, don’t tell me you’re a running team.”
Currently trying to find where our next opponent sets the 3tech on film that was either filmed by Mr. Zapruder or the guy who filmed Bigfoot. Maybe both of them.
Bixby’s performance in the 6A-1 Title Game also makes
@CoachAdamGaylor
’s two game plans against them that much more impressive. (He’ll say ‘we’ve got great kids and they’re a great program to this)
So much of good defense is knowing how to…limit bleeding before stopping it.

All credit to Bill Williams and the FCPGA. Best money I invest in my knowledge. Every position out there in his 7,000 DVD library.
Dave Aranda and Dante Bartee visit him every summer and his instruction has even helped me become a better classroom teacher.

"It doesn't matter if you have an extra hat on defense in the run game if that guy doesn't tackle...it doesn't matter if they have an extra hat on defense if you can make him miss. If we only ran it vs. good numbers, Emmitt isn't the leading rusher in history."

Hey all,
Please keep one of my players, Kolton Black, in your prayers tonight. He’s one of my players and sustained a scary hit tonight and is being evaluated at Shock Trauma for a neck injury.
Well that concludes our undefeated, unscored upon, spring, and mid-pandemic JV football season. Thanks to
@MDGAPodcast
for helping me know the rules of every defense we played and
@RunThePower
for helping me know how to add gaps.
To God be the glory, to the kids be the fun.
I think about going to Missouri just to meet Coach Bailey. His episode with
@RunThePower
is probably my favorite, the guy thinks deeply about EVERYTHING.
"If you asked me 10 years ago, I'd say a state championship makes it worthwhile...but the 1st..the 7th..none of them filled me up. I think it's about trying to build something with the kids that lasts more than just 1 season."
This is why Lamar wins.
@Lamar_Athletics
My biggest pet peeve with 7 on 7 is DCs acting like they're going to run 2-Man all day long. If youre going to do that...at least teach C7 and run it during the season.
The single best piece of scripting advice I have heard was to script the first 5 plays after your starting Q gets hurt. Put the attention to detail and prep really into perspective.
Working on a project - If you are an offensive coach and make an opening script, what is your thought process in crafting that script. If you'd be willing to share any insights, it would be greatly appreciated. Feel free to DM if you don't want to share publicly. Thanks.
3-4 guys (especially Tite front)
If you slant your nose to an A gap, and the tackle is either a 4i or slanting inside from a 4tech, what do you have the ILB to that side read? Surface to ball?
Any 3-4 guys wanting to answer questions HMU, always trying to learn more odd.
Things young coaches should study: 7 man spacing, differences between even and odd fits, pass pro, route timing....and last but most important, all things special teams.
Also: be good at film and even better at copiers.
You know those things? You are valuable to anyone.
We need a lacrosse clinic devoted to practice planning. Everything that goes into it. Small school, big school, weights, stickwork, design, EVERYTHING.
Can promise that
@SC_Cavs_Lax
will host it at some point.
Disclaimer: This town had a 35 game winning streak a few years ago and plays hard-nosed flexbone football in HS. Food for thought.

Here’s a photo. I love circuits. Can cover a lot quickly and make the rep athlete centered. Backs go from handoff to being the read guy back to getting handoff...and so on. If more than four backs, add an on deck circle before the handoff. This would be strong/weak alignment.
All taught from the formation tag (Tight/Loose, Strong/Weak, Near/Far) are done in a circuit with QBs facing each other. Have to be variable and not have any tells in terms of back location.
Football Twitter has an absolute wealth of resources and resource sharing, but
@CoachBandstra
's YouTube channel is one of the most underrated for sure. Lot of stuff I have to catch up on!
Our boys came into the year fast but after having no hamstring injuries, getting faster every week, and an opposing coach saying "that was the fastest JV team I have seen," I will never do anything other than the

First, horrified by the initial fire...didn’t realize the explosion hadn’t happened yet. One of the worst things I’ve ever seen...praying for Beirut and all those who effected.
Blessed and excited to announce I'll be taking the reigns for South Carroll Boys' Lacrosse this spring.

If you even suspect a racist/sexist/homophobic slur has been used.....tell the refs, tell both staffs immediately. We can't address what we don't know about during the game.
Amazed at dudes in Facebook coaching groups who say gap scheme is "too complicated."
"I can just add another fullback, works the same."
....yeah maybe, also takes away a vertical threat, makes it easier to fit, and limits play calling opportunities.

Explained fitting the run out of 2-high/2-gapping a DL/ball-fitting LBs to my girlfriend while driving up to VT for a getaway. Her verdict on playing out gapped: “that seems presumptuous.”
One of the most biased tweets I’ve ever seen. It makes me sick. I take so much pride in my teaching that I talk a lot about my subjects (psych/world) at practice.
Absolute bulls***.
Guys, let’s get something straight...Dabo rips his players when they mess up, Saban got choked up talking about Jalen Hurts. It’s not “love against fear,” they are more similar than we acknowledge.
