So you’re just a HS coach...
*Its not the level, it’s about learning
*Innovation is born out of deprivation
*Your lack of talent to coach, increases your coaching talent...
Quote from a young coach in our staff meeting today...
“I want to be the man that I needed in my life when I was a teenager”...
This rocked me & reminded me that this game is MORE THAN football...
In 2015 training camp, Jason Garrett asked the veterans to talk each night to the team…
Jason Witten wanted to go first…
He spoke on “Y-option”…
His play…
So everyone thought…

Wide receiver play should begin w/ BLOCKING. It’s one of the 🔑 traits in a 🏆 team. It doesn’t happen on its own. It’s the toughest concept to coach b/c it goes against human nature. When you crack the code on servant leadership, magic happens.

I recently did a 5-year study on every INT thrown over the last 5 years in the NFL.
This study revealed a variety of common patterns that resulted in interceptions for specific routes.
A frequent one was against the Seam Route…(a thread)

When Peyton Manning was drafted he was asked by a reporter, “What are you going to do with all the money?”
He replied, “Earn it.”

How many coaches were yelling the play call when they saw Foles moving over the right tackle...seen it at least 15 times in high school over the last 4 years...
Soccer goal on the field? Get creative. Use the goal as a frame of reference for defensive lineman’s hands trying to tip the ball. This helps QBs learn how to extend on the throw w/o pulling down. QBs must learn to get the ball to turn over w/ minimal hang time.
One of the best formations & run plays in football. Mid-line Zone Seal out of Bunch, right down the A gap. Spice it up w/ counter flow RB action. Yes, please...
Watching college spring games & wondering when QBs will be coached to stop living in a defender key / pick a side world...Always allow your QB to have a full field post snap attack!

Everyplace has a “Red”, a man that knows how to get things.
Today I was given a gift that I didn’t know was possible.
I can even hide a rock hammer in it...
Want to become a better QB coach?
Be the scout team QB & use your position specific coaching points on yourself. Video it & break it down.
You quickly discover what procedures are practical & what are pointless.
QB questions to ponder:
What is intent of the pass concept being called?
What coverage am I seeing?
What is the weakness of the coverage?
What is the protection?
What is my hot?
What is my drop?
Who are the primary defenders placed in conflict?
How do I visually read the pass…
If you haven’t coached against the modern 3 Safety Defense, you need to get ready for it...

Often we tell QBs to move faster with “game speed” without giving them a frame of reference. This drill is helpful in forcing QBs to feel “game speed”. Then you can reference back to the drill later if the QB reverts into a lull of movement.
The 5 types of throws a QB must make...
•Box
•Before
•Beyond
•Between
