Our institutions should reflect Canada’s diversity. The keffiyah is an important cultural symbol that should be welcomed in all Canadian institutions. An expression of pride in one’s heritage should be celebrated, not stifled.

Kuffiyahs are part of the culture and identity of hundreds of thousands of Canadians. Trying to ban it is like telling those Canadians that they are second class citizens because of who they are, especially in their own house of democracy. It’s unacceptable
NEW: Speaker Ted Arnott has prohibited Palestinian kaffiyehs from being worn by anyone -- MPPs or guests -- in the Ontario legislature over concerns the scarves make "an overt political statement." The NDP has asked him to reconsider.
