Best thing I’ve read on DeepSeek so far. Really drives home that if some reasoning model in China can hang with o1 then it doesn’t matter where the data center is, latency is irrelevant. Also there’s a ton of room for compute efficiency.

DeepSeek has completely upended people’s expectations for AI and competition with China. What is it, and why does it matter?

It’d be funny if Stargate can’t turn on because Trump blocked the wind and solar projects.
Trump’s decision to pause solar development on federal land is the opposite of what we need to be doing. Our best solar resources are in the American southwest. Exactly where the federal government owns a lot of land…. But due to red tape, solar developers avoid federal land.

If you really hated Donal Trump you would buy an EV, a heat pump, and some solar panels.
. While the "national emergency order" was framed as a 'production' problem, production is already at an all-time high & grew under Biden’s Admin & even more (88%!) across Obama’s two terms. As @robinsonmeyer expertly analyzed in @heatmap_news, the point is to increase *demand*

When the Chevron refinery in Richmond caught fire in 2012, about 15k people went to the hospital. That refinery moves 240k barrels of oil per day, or about 17 GW. The Vistra Moss landing battery project evacuated about 1200 people and moves 750 MW.

@paces_ai have done great work identifying where zoning outright bans solar, for example

Learn how Paces is using LLMs to structure vast amounts of solar zoning legislation.

This is a great example of a project that is not being stopped by NEPA but by “public opposition.” Permitting reform needs to be so much more than just NEPA.

Lightsource BP has abandoned plans for a 300 MW solar project in Ohio that was highly opposed by local residents.
