These riots started in Parliament. Rioters chant “stop the boats” and “we want our country back” - using language from politicians across the political spectrum. It’s not enough to call out violence, politicians need to stop normalising hate. In policy and practice.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: The enemy of the working class travels by private jet, not migrant dinghy.

Muslims and migrants have been demonised by the press and politicians for decades. This racist, far-right violence is the culmination of that.

What will it take for political leaders to explicitly call out the Islamophobic and racist nature of the violence we are witnessing across the country?

'We need to call this racist and we need to call it Islamophobic.' @zarahsultana is 100% correct. How revealing that she is shouted down at the very point she calls out politicians and journalists for fanning the flames of far right violence.
