This video is exceedingly close to the "1" and "1.4" stations in this map of #NYC depicting how many hours a given location saw rainfall exceeding the sewer capacity tonight. Weather data + infrastructure info = tons of possibilities. #nycwx

Already a "considerable" tag on this flash flood warning with very heavy rain on the way is quite bad. #njwx

The @nysmesonet's Warwick site has similarly had ~2" of rain in just 30 minutes, easily beating their all-time *hourly* record of 1.59". Also concerned about populous Westchester County, which has had significant rainfall with more on the way. #nywx
The @nysmesonet's Brewster station (in SE NY, very close to the CT border) recently reported over 2" of rain in just 30 minutes. Previously, its record *one hour* rainfall total was 1.72". With additional storms to the west, it's easy to see why there is a flood risk in SE NY.

Awful that yet again a potential heavy rainfall event is setting up with such similar conditions:.-potential overnight peak.-somewhat rapid amplification of threat over preceding 24 hours.-occuring on non-worknight when few pay attention.-approximately same geographic area.#txwx.
‼️ Concern continues to grow for dangerous & life-threatening flash flooding in the same areas hit by last weekend's devastating floods, with localized rainfall >10-12" possible. WPC Discussion: (Read the quoted posts for how the forecast evolved today)

It's not a cure-all, but some really basic tools like a NOAA weather radio would have been really beneficial to locals in this event. Nice article here (as long as you don't read the replies!).
As Texas flood death toll hits 100, experts say better early warning system could’ve reduced casualties

Conversely, the belief that NWS is somehow doing worse could feed into a vicious cycle of "well, we need to privatize this to improve it.". No doubt the Accuweathers and Tomorrow.ios of the world are calling up TX, Trump, etc to say "fund us instead.".
After media reports & experts warned for months that drastic & sudden cuts at the Nat Weather Service by Trump could impair their forecasting ability & endanger lives during the storm season, TX officials blame an inaccurate forecast by NWS for the deadly results of the flood.

People are asking these obvious questions. My answer would be: these things are hard to predict and likely would have unfolded *without* cuts to NWS. BUT! If we agree we want to do better, you'd make sure NOAA labs who develop our modeling remain funded. Trump wants huge cuts.
Floods happen and often with little warning. That's why they're called flash floods. But with the particularly deadly floods that just hit Texas it's important to ask to what degree massive DOGE cuts to weather reporting/emergency warning systems contributed to this loss of so.

Really interesting evolution of the MCV producing extensive flooding in TX. Initially "random" storms slowly coalesce, which concentrates latent heating, which then produces concentrated vorticity (aka, "spin"). This process is not unlike how a tropical storm forms. #txwx

I love what I'm seeing from @GovKathyHochul lately. This bill is a massive transfer of wealth from the poor to the rich (among other things). Such "left-wing" groups as the Elon Musk, Catholic Church, Chamber of Commerce, (etc) oppose it. Unfortunately, Republicans will pass it.
New York’s seven GOP members of Congress have the power to stop the Big, Ugly Bill and keep 1.5 million New Yorkers from losing their health coverage. Will they stand with their constituents, or will they turn their back on them?.
