2 PM Wednesday: Pinhole eye is back on Erin today. Strengthening to a category 3 hurricane is possible. Thank goodness it isn't a direct hit but the OBX will still see pretty bad impacts (2-4' surge, 15-20' waves, tropical storm gusts).

9 PM TUESDAY: Buoy wave heights at the NC Coast have reached 6-10' today. The worst comes Wednesday night and Thursday. I'll have the new advisory tonight at 11 PM on WRAL.

⚠NEW AT 5 PM: A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for much of the NC Coast. 40-60 mph winds are possible from Erin. Even though Erin stays offshore, it's an unusually large hurricane and tropical storm force wind gusts are possible Wed/Thu at the coast.

NEW at 5 PM on WRAL: Storm Surge Watch issued from Cape Lookout to Duck, NC from Hurricane Erin. Erin will not make landfall in NC, but it's an unusually large hurricane and powerful waves will lead to coastal flooding issues and storm surge.

3 PM Monday: WOW! Life guards have now reported more than 50 rescues today in NC due to swells from Erin. The numbers keep climbing. Stay OUT of the water if the red flags are flying!
