Oh, and honourable mention to effect and how it does dependencies, but the “hidden entry point” still harms it.

Wrote a little thing about mocking in JS, why it hurts my soul to do it, and why I do it anyway. Also in all seriousness, please don't mock SQL databases. Just use a real one running in a docker or a sqlite or something. It's not hard, and it's not slow. (Link in reply)

That said I did spend most of my time locked in the meeting “room” (more like a cupboard) pairing with @blankparticle so at least that part of it will be slightly more comfortable for me.

Sometimes thinking about doing a thing is more enjoyable than doing the actual thing…. But then it’s unsatisfactory *not* to do the thing. Not sure what the solution here is.

Hypothetical:. You are locked in a room with *all* of human written knowledge for an infinite time, with the caveat that you can only read and think, but not physically *do* anything in the books. What tasks would still be hard to perform? I would presume things like playing.

The bigger question is when will the “we are in an AI bubble” bubble pop. I’m sure I’ve seen this opinion many times over the last ~2 years. We almost certainly are in a bubble, but so far no one’s called the top. Also, agents only became useful imo this year, we are still.
I cannot help but feel we're hitting peak AI hype, when investors are willingly being take for a ride:. A mattress company raising funding to use AI to "fix sleep". A startup to add AI inside jewelry. Two examples that both sound ridiculous but raised funding. Not my money. .

Not sure what to write a blog post on this month. Any preference from the below topics?. 1. Feature dev vs managing tech debt (warning — I don’t have the answers). 2. Why I hate mocking imports in JavaScript (and why I do it anyway). 3. My current AI workflow & general thoughts.

The sad thing about no longer living in Manchester is now my wife and I can't say "Alright lads, let's get a sing song going, it's a long way back to Manchester" whenever we return from a trip. (and if you've not watched the IT Crowd, you should).

Playing with the cutting edge is fun, but I’ve been thoroughly lacerated over the last couple days by @Cloudflare 😂.

Can’t believe you actually get paid to write code, imagine what a medieval peasant would think of the job.

The worst part of devops work is how slow the feedback loop is. It's just long enough to be distracted (hence tabbing out to X), and short enough that you can't really productively do anything else.

The UK can now increase tax revenues by taking a NordVPN sponsorship.

This is a hilarious response to the new regulations in the UK. Unfortunately what we'll most likely see is the shuttering of many smaller / independent websites. If you're not making significant revenues in Britain, just geoblock them.
