One of the best and most unique experiences I had was when I went surfing after a morning of parabolic flight experiments (micro, partial and hyper-gravity). Perceptually, my senses and motor coordination felt very different in the water. I only noticed a little disorientation.

The NASA Twins Study. Published in Science in 2019, this is one of the most comprehensive and interesting studies to date investigating the effects of long-duration space flight on the human body. One twin on the ISS for a year, his twin on Earth serving as a genetically

Great paper from 2023 updating our understanding of the famous homunculus (“little man”) representation in the brain. This work provides neuroimaging data suggesting the representation should include coordinating complex movements involving multiple muscles through connections

Imagine how much back pain will be prevented when robots are helping with physical tasks . Back pain is the single leading cause of disability worldwide.

@davidpattersonx Your estimates are about right. However, intelligent robots in humanoid form will far exceed the population of humans, as every person will want their own personal R2-D2 and C-3PO. And then there will be many robots in industry for every human to provide products & services.

Post from a while back, thought of it with all the discussion about the negative effects of alcohol and its declining popularity. @hubermanlab are you familiar with this effect of alcohol on the vestibular system?.

When you consume alcohol, it enters your bloodstream and diffuses into various tissues, including the inner ear. The endolymph in the semicircular canals (of the vestibular system) has a specific density, which is normally close to that of the surrounding tissues. Alcohol,

The next time you read or hear debates about which sensors are required for autonomous driving…. if the discussion does not include any or all of the following topics:. - sensor acuity, resolution, bandwidths.- data filtering techniques .- sensor fusion approaches (e.g.

Facts About Falls (via CDC):. - One out of 10 falls results in an injury that causes the older adult to restrict their activities for a day or more or to seek attention from the healthcare system. - Each year, there are about 3 million emergency department visits due to older.

Highly recommend reading this recent review paper in which the authors suggest that active inference (linked to the free energy principle) can be used to model consciousness. This may have implications for understanding the principles of consciousness for both natural and
