If you’re disabled, even just speaking about it once will have someone accusing you of talking too much about it and “letting your disability become your identity.” In other words: don’t talk about disability, it makes the ableds uncomfortable. Good luck shutting me up tho 😆

2025 for disabled people has been one of political turmoil, disappointment and renewed anger... What we need to do in 2026 is go on the front foot and put forward a clear counter-narrative that a decent social security system improves life for everyone. https://t.co/InfgJeVFlG

Mikey Erhardt, of Disability Rights UK, writes about what must change in politics to build disabled people's trust in 2026.

Everyone deserves and should have a right to have enough to live a comfortable life, in a safe home, with the support they need. This should be the bare minimum, especially in a society like ours with the wealth we have.

I initially joined social media because my family were scattered in various places, and it made it easier to annoy them all at once! :-p :-D

Reminder that disabled folk can’t just turn their disabilities off for Christmas, or just because you have a get together planned. Facilitate where possible. Understand if they say no. Don’t put pressure on them. But don’t stop inviting them unless they specifically ask you to.

Reminder this Christmas that you might have disabled friends and family members who can’t go out, can’t drink or eat what you are, and might have to cancel last minute or leave early. It’s not because they don’t care, and please do what you can to facilitate & support them.

I will not be defined by somebody else's idea of what 'success' is. Especially not in a selfish, ableist society which often has no idea how difficult things can be. #Disability

Campaigners/claimants have said DWP needs a major overhaul with a change of senior staff for years. Sadly the media don't listen until someone official says it. https://t.co/Ye6geku3No

The continuous lying of MP's about disability benefits, PIP and the mobility scheme HAS TO STOP. Interviewers should research these topics and TELL them they are lying live on air and any media promoting those lies should be reported.

'Reasonable adjustments' are not a privilege. They're not an advantage over others. They create a 'level playing field' so that those of us at a disadvantage (through #disability or other health issues) can even begin to have a chance. It's about fairness and equality.

The government needs to change its “extremely damaging” narrative that suggests disabled people are an “economic burden”, and move away from threats and sanctions, if it wants to increase disability employment, MPs have been told. https://t.co/WcghBl3Xzo
