And I saw this just a few yards away. Matthew Goode is so terrific in the lead role I’m not surprised he’s on the cover!

Loved looking through a wonderful bookshop in Bruges this afternoon. And I found this trilogy by Peterhead author Estelle Maskame, who has a huge following in YA fiction as you can see by the company she is keeping!

Here’s a statue commemorating the two Highland nurses - Mairi Chisholm and Elsie Knocker - who tended to the wounds of thousands of soldiers during the First World in Belgium and were known as the “Angels of Pervyse”!

Just processing what happened during “The Last Post” at the Menin Gate tonight. Scores of mobile users filming it, others eating while they stood there and a baby (not her fault) crying her eyes out. It’s a memorial to millions who died in war. Not a Taylor Swift concert!.

We visited the grave of a relative today in Belgium. David Taylor was just 19 when he died in 1917. He had been a miner before he joined up. There are so many other stories at the Menin Gate and, even now, it’s impossible to comprehend the scale of the losses. And for what!?

We visited the grave of a relative who was killed near Ypres aged 19. David Taylor had been a miner before joining up - and he and myriad other teenagers never came home. We went to the Menin Gate afterwards. Even now, the scale of the losses is impossible to comprehend!

Good news about a second series of “Dept. Q”, which had plenty of great acting, writing, directing and myriad Edinburgh locations in its first run. It was too long at nine episodes - six or seven would be better next time round!.

🎥 Big news: Netflix has commissioned a second series of Dept. Q, the hit Edinburgh-set detective based at FirstStage Studios in Leith. Leah Byrne, Matthew Goode & Alexej Manvelov will all return. 🎥 .@heraldscotland @screenscots @FilmEdinburgh @edinburgh

A very happy 100th birthday to D-Day hero and Turriff legend Jim Glennie, who was among the Gordon Highlanders on the beaches of Normandy on June 6, 1944. He is a true gentleman and has spent nearly 30 years volunteering at the GH Museum in Aberdeen!
