On Fridays & Saturdays over the next few weeks, there are evening performances of ‘Vox Feminae’, which seeks to amplify the voices of women in Pompeii. Last night’s performance of ‘Julia Felix’ in Pompeii’s Odeion was captivatingly powerful. https://t.co/Ym98zSmJvM @pompeii_sites

And of course you can also reflect on some of the women who excavated and worked in Pompeii over the course of its 270 years of rediscovery. I am still very proud to have contributed a panel to the exhibition spotlighting the important role of these women in Pompeii’s history.

The night visits to Pompeii over the next few weeks also include entrance into the current exhibition ‘Being a Woman in Ancient Pompeii’ in the Large Gymnasium, which by night is a subtly haunting and altogether different experience to that by day. https://t.co/S9szejm6Vr

So overall I think we can all regroup in autumn on any number of days to commemorate the still unknown exact anniversary of the eruption of Vesuvius in AD 79.

Arguments for people wearing heavy clothing is also inconclusive. It’s very plausible given that the sun was blotted out, there was hot volcanic material falling from the sky, and the uncertainty of the event that people could be wearing heavier garments even in summer.
