Every second a Labour MP spends campaigning for a wealth tax is a second that could be spent campaigning for real tax reform that could make the tax system fairer, boost economic growth and (unlike the wealth tax) actually happen. A thread:

At this point, the kindest thing would be to just cut West Oxfordshire off from the National Grid. They are scared of electricity.

A solar farm that could have powered “all the households in Witney” has been refused permission by West Oxfordshire District Council. Councillors cited the risk of fire, one drawing parallels to the Aberfan disaster: “Until someone can guarantee it is safe, I can’t support it.”

Yes, when did we decide our public spaces had to be unpleasant? In Rome's main train station recently, security guards patrolled, telling people not to sit on the floor (even out of the way of others), yet no seating to be seen.

Maybe fault lies partly with the airport: Why are there so few seats in the first place? (To make one go somewhere where you have to pay to consume, of course.) Why did a staff member walk by and say nothing? (That comes down to leadership, training, setting the right standards.)

Reading widely is obv good, but at it's more extreme end, "citation justice" would seem to require a far greater knowledge of the sexual orientation, disabilities and racial/gender identity of people I have never met than is remotely feasible or desirable

🤑 The average FTSE 100 CEO is now paid 122 times the salary of the average full-time UK worker. ⚖️ The Green Party would introduce a 10:1 pay ratio, meaning the highest-paid employee cannot earn more than ten times the lowest-paid.

Utterly preposterous. I suspect I disagree with plenty of Kate Forbe's opinions, but the idea that hosting the Scottish Deputy FM at a theatre made people in the building 'unsafe' and 'terrified' is absolutely for the birds.

Stop prattling about wealth taxes and start taxing land properly. It's not progressive to engage in crap tax policy.

Using Copilot a bit more recently. It's often pretty good at answering questions but it's still pretty weak at providing sources for its answers, even when specifically prompted. Which is kinda worrying.

Starmer’s attack on the Palestinian movement is too unhinged even for the Murdoch press. Who thought we’d end up with a “Labour” government that’s too authoritarian for Rupert Murdoch

Two weird things that politicians do: 1. Make speeches standing in front of bored-looking nurses, factory workers etc. 2. Pretend to do other peoples jobs: milkmen, chip shop workers, cleaners etc. Both things look absolutely fucking barking mad.
