This has been a great year for the engine, but there are still a lot of things we would love to do. If each follower donated €5, we could hire 5 more developers to work on Godot full-time. 👉 https://t.co/4sfzu8XwQa

With that said the technology is here to stay. I don't know if it'll change. I imagine the push will continue toward getting you to ask the LLM. It would be funny if we also went back to the website directories that we used when I was a kid. I can see this happening too.

Some people in the comments and reposts talk about this being backlash, but even just pragmatically, in programming, the web has really been flooded with AI generated material. I barely use search engines anymore for anything related to coding, I go straight to places and people

New browser tool lets users freeze the internet in 2022 to escape AI-generated content. Say “goodbye” to “AI slop”. A new browser extension called Slop Evader lets you surf the web as if AI never existed. Created by artist and researcher Tega Brain, it automatically filters

This clips means to show that an effect in the game is poorly optimized. FPS goes from 600 to 300! So this attacks makes the game 2x slower? No, not at all. Let me explain. (Note: maybe there are performance issues in the game, just this clip does not really show that) Here

One thing I hope for Godot is that it avoids bubbling up too much in the future, to avoid becoming another Unity. It's started to get on a bit of a slippery slope but the roadmap and core team seems to be aware of it.

The more an engine generalizes and the more features it has, the more complex it gets and the more trade-offs it has to make. General purpose code can be convenient but also slow. But also not everyone can or should make their own engine. Many people are making games as small

Poor performance affects all software (e.g. notice how slow Windows is), but actually today I feel there's a strong movement toward being mindful of performance. We've been through perhaps a decades-long shift toward interpreted and dynamic programming languages that sacrifice

Game art is all about tricks (this is also true of animated film and VFX more generally). In games, clouds and other detailed mountains in the distance may also be just images wrapped around spheres or other basic geometric shapes. If an object has a backside you can not see,

The base contract of a Free Software project is you're given the full value of the software and ability to study, modify and redistribute it, but it is provided as is with no other warranties. With that said, I would never ever condition donations or sponsorships to an open

A popular open-source project is looking for donations. The average sponsor is paying $3.51 a month, and they're making less than $1000 total. I offer to sponsor by $280 a month if they fix some bugs that hundreds of other people have also been complaining about. Email ignored.

Quality education takes a lot of time and iterations to create. Any company making tons of courses fast is a red flag. When companies hire inexperienced people or use AI to cut costs, you learn practices that will lead you to dead ends. This costs you double: there's the time

Cheap bundles like this are designed to collect your data and upsell you more low-quality content. Many contain outdated or material made by inexperienced that won't help you learn. Instead, follow reputable instructors who create quality Godot content: - @Firebelley -

It's powered by our own site generator, made nearly from scratch, that gives us a lot of power without the bloat or risk of chain-of-supply attacks of web frameworks (because we minimize dependencies and read the source code of each). It's crazy to me how complicated and heavy

Open source community Mixamo alternative Mesh2Motion is getting support for driving character movement with "root motion" In your games, you can use that to drive the character movement exactly like how your animators designed it. Godot also supports this feature.

Just finished coding the support for animations to have root motion. Good for uneven movement. This will be in the next release for Mesh2Motion. They will have "RM" at the end of the animation name.

In my experience, people really understand that well when you tell them clearly: "I don't have the time to do that but if someone wants to build and maintain this, it's most welcome." or "This is outside the scope of this project and what I'll maintain myself. But don't hesitate

When contributing to open source something that's easy to miss is that everything added to the program adds maintenance load. Not only that, complexity can also come at the cost of stability and performance. Any free software project can clearly say what contributions they
